Halloween is coming up around the corner and the itch to be the most amazing super-duper costumed chick is sure to become stronger as we roll over into October. Stroll into any costume shop and you have a ever growing selection of “sexy” costumes. Everything from sexy cat to sexy Wizard of Oz. I find that these costumes reveal more than they conceal and that’s kind of the opposite of what Halloween costumes are for.
Though one is free to flaunt their wares as they see fit (re: Cady from Mean Girls: “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”, I find it appalling for people to charge an exorbitant amount of money for cheap, flimsy, and unflattering garments that all have the same shapes year after year.
I am also weirded out that people would want to wear really skimpy clothing outside on a chilly October evening to begin with.
Okay, so maybe that’s fine for those who want to but where does that leave the ladies who dont’ want to show off the fine china?
Maybe you don’t want to be sexed up for Halloween but are having trouble figuring out what to do for the event. No one wants to be remembered for having an ugly or boring outfit but don’t take this to mean that you have to choose between being a snore and being a skank. Ladies, just as there is more than one way to skin a cat, there are more ways to impressively disguise yourself this Halloween than by grabbing an overpriced cheap costume that is outside your comfort level or combining the shortest and tightest garments in your closet together.
I’m all about DIY costumes!
Here’s pictures of some non-sexyfied fun costumes I’ve done over the years to show that you can be impressive with just a bit of creativity:
