PodCRASH Star Wars VII Smackdown at iO West
Last Saturday a Jedi council meeting took place at the iO West Theater in Hollywood. The reason for this council meeting? To discuss the inevitable new chapter in the Star Wars saga. Shall this new chapter bring hope or will it bring darkness to the franchise? Seven Star Wars fans were gathered to discuss what they would like to see in the next trilogy, what direction they think it ought to go, along with a little Star Wars memorabilia show and tell. I even got to join in at one point and provide some Fanfic Theater for the show!
As much as I’d like to make a joke about the event being a hive of scum and villainy, it was an evening of nerdy fun and hilarity.
This meeting was, in fact, a live PodCRASH with That Chris Gore. As a big Star Wars fan, I couldn’t have enjoyed watching this more.
As each panelist was introduced, a Star Wars crawl they had written was shown on the screen.
All of the crawls were very entertaining. Some poked fun at the fact that Disney now owns the rights to Star Wars, while others tried to predict the plot of the future trilogy.
Some very interesting and valid points were brought up during this panel and each panelist had a different take on the future of Star Wars and what they’d like to see. I so badly wanted to run on the stage and join the conversation!
The show got a surprise visit from two very disgraced and drunk members of the original trilogy, R2D2 and Han Solo. They didn’t seem too pleased with the direction the franchise was going.
I was lucky enough to be a part of the show and terrorize the panelists by making them read a deliciously awful fanfic called “Showgirls”. It involves Yoda, tequila, and a strip club. You’ll just have to wait and listen to the podcast to find out the rest. Maniacal laugh.
I have to say my favorite part of the panel was the memorabilia show and tell. I love seeing what geeky stuff other people have and I couldn’t help but be jealous of some of the awesome items on stage. Pop up books, lightsaber chopsticks, autographs, and even Chris Gore’s face imprinted a la Han Solo in carbonite.
The best part of the evening, though? Truly?
We got to have a blue milk tasting. For the record, there was vodka in there. Mama like.
I also go to fulfill my lifelong dream of dressing up like Princess Leia! Huzzah!
This was such a fun evening and I feel so lucky that I got to participate in the show. Thank you so much to Chris Gore for allowing me to participate, and thank you to all of the panelists for doing such an great job reading that traumatizing fanfic (and for not getting mad at me afterwards!). All of the panelists were amazing and brought up valid points concerning the next trilogy.
Here’s to being hopeful for the future of Star Wars and may the force be with you… always.
