Los Animales is a web comic hosted at Animalsoundsrecords.com, written by Liz O. and drawn by Jeaux J. Pedro Lionovsky and Manda Pandarosian stars as the two, somewhat snarky, main characters of the series and they are working at the very last record store in town. Liz O. is not only a writer by trade, she is also a DJ and probably my biggest music nerd friend. Los Animales celebrated its release at Club Underground at the Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown, where Liz djs every other Friday.
Gizzy B and I made the trek to Chinatown once again to celebrate with Liz that night. She’s kind of a really awesome DJ too, you guys, and if you’re in LA — go check out Club Underground every Friday night! Great 80s and Brit pop music to shake your booty to.
The art for Los Animales is a lot of fun and the character designs are pretty unique. Jeaux’s artwork reminds me of my childhood and the cartoons that I used to watch. I miss the days when cartoons were paired with sharp and witty dialogue between the characters.
The comic is definitely funny and I think a lot of hardcore music fans would appreciate it. It pokes fun at the music nerds in a very loving way, exposing how the minds of individuals who take their music appreciation very seriously. Liz has always been vocal about her own music-loving ways — you should check out her article on “How To Become Music Geek in Four Simple Steps.”
Los Animales is a love letter to all of you music fans. For people like myself who will not-so-secretly listen to Justin Bieber because I absolutely have no taste in music, it’s still a comic worth reading because it’s well-written and the art is done very well. This is a high-quality comic on the web that you can read for free(!) over at Animalsoundrecords.com.
