Last night, the 1st annual Geekie Awards took place at The Avalon in Hollywood and the show was hosted by the lovely, Alison Haislip. Stan Lee was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by Seth Green on stage and was completely delightful as per usual, singing an ode to geek he wrote himself to the tune of Yankee Doodle. The show was a lot of fun, smart and full of surprises.

The Geekie Awards was created by Kristen Nedopak which aimed to put the spotlight on the creative and unsung heroes of the geek community. Awards were given to Best Craft to Best Crowdfunding to Best Short Films.
The evening started out rough for Gizzy B and I because we waited in line to get in for about an hour and a half outside the venue. Which was killer if you were wearing heels plus the heat from the sun on top of it. We had expected to hang out and say hi to friends before the show but sadly, we got in just in time for the show to start. We were exhausted by the time we were in but thank goodness for the cushioned seats we managed to get to rest and lounge on. The rest of the evening went pretty smoothly.
We loved all the videos that were show during the breaks and Superhero Speed Dating made me laugh the most. They also played short videos especially made for the show right before each nominees were announced for the categories and they were hilarious. The actual trophies are shaped like blue space-guns and looked super neat. Other award presenters included Grant Imahara, Ralph Garman, Mark Christopher Lawrence, Bonnie Burton and Richard Hatch. Sadly, even though Nathan Fillion was honored with an award he couldn’t make it — perhaps next year? ;)
People were dressed up to the nines and many cosplayers were also in attendance. It was a good mix of the Los Angeles geeks coming together to celebrate creativity and geekery.
