Yesterday, Defective Geeks Set Out to Spread Some Girl Love
Hello! This is new Defective Geeks blogger, Michelle Nguyen, aka “Chubby Bunny,” on my first post and bringing you my first Defective Geeks collab event!
For the past 3 years, I’ve gathered together my girlfriends to celebrate a an oft-hated holiday, but spun to celebrate our friendship with each other, instead of getting all worked up about whether we had a date for the big V-Day or not. Also, I once saw that episode of Parks & Recreation where they did it , so I just stole the idea, because I’m cool like that.
AND SO, the annual GAL-ENTINE’S DAY was born! A day to be girly, fancy, and give Valentines to our like-minded girlfriends, play dumb parlor games, and have no boys allowed! HA! This year, I brought Defective Geeks into the mix, and renamed it “Geek Gal-entine’s Day,” and held it at the Wellesborne bar on the Westside.
We had a great attendance of about 30 girls all come and exchange cheesy Valentine’s with each other, treats, and enjoy the great cocktails in the gaming lounge at the Wellesborne.
There was even an appearance by the GHOST OF ST. GALENTINE HERSELF! I laughed until I cried at Giselle’s amazing ghostly outfit.
The highlight of the evening was a little-bit-too-difficult game of Pictionary, dividing the girls into two teams to guess nerd words such as “Marauder’s Map,” “Khaaaaaan”, and “I love you. I know.”
The big kicker was that the prizes for the winning team were DIY nerd-boy calendars made by Yume and myself. We had a REALLY GOOD TIME googling “Chris Evans Shirtless,” “Thor’s Abs” and “Hot Tom Hiddleston” all day. For real.
Additional prizes were AMAZING romance novels provided by Dianne that… feature a lot of dudes languishing on rocks. The ladies loved these.
We were so loud, they almost kicked us out of the bar, haha! WHOOPS! We will have to search for a more rowdy location next year! Thanks to everyone who made it, and we hope to continue this tradition in the future!
Hooray for Geek Galentines!
