Compared to last year’s extravagant event, this year’s Oscar party hosted by TheOneRing.net was a much more casual and low key event. That didn’t stop us from putting on our wannabe-red-carpet outfits and braving the traffic in Los Angeles! Apparently, all the streets are closed when the celebrities are strutting their way down the red carpet. This year’s party was held at the Cat & Fiddle pub and restaurant, just a few blocks away from the ceremony.
The Cat & Fiddle was a tavern themed restaurant and it is definitely be a great place to hang out. Their patio is beautiful, a good spot to eat and drink outdoors. Our tickets provided a course meal and one drink but I certainly miss the open bar from last year’s party! This year, we mostly stayed in one spot to watch the actual award show as oppose to last year which had much more entertainment throughout the huge venue. No photo booths or magicians dressed like Gandalf this year. Sad face.
Still, we were quite happy that The One Ring continued its tradition of Oscar parties. I was sad when I thought they weren’t even going to try and throw a party this year. We hope they repeat it again next year since it will be the last year after the final movie is released, and find a middle ground for the event. It’s always a fun to have an excuse to get dressed up with other fans, act glamorous and mingle.
Thankfully, the Oscar was quite funny this year with Ellen as the host. All of the internet is already talking about it, but I loved the pizza delivery bit. I have that much more respect for all the actors who took a slice of pizza. I believe Meryl Streep grabbed two slices. That rocked. Also, Jared Leto giving his mom a slice of pizza. . . did anyone else’s uterus happen to explode at the moment? No? Just me? Unfortunately, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug did not win any awards this year but I know there is always hope for next year.
Our night was rewarded when Dean O’ Gorman (Fili), Adam Brown (Ori) and Craig Parker (Haldir!) all showed up together at the end of the award show to grab a drink with everyone. We admit — Gizzy B and I got pretty excited and completely fangirled over Dean! As much as most Hobbity-fangirls have been drooling over Kili and with me always purposely going against the grain, I love Fili! Dean turned out to be so sweet and nice that I was completely won over. Swoon! Adam and Craig were amazing and kind too. Craig especially had a lot of energy that night.
Craig decided that my elf ears should have been a bluetooth device. I think he might be onto something! He fangirled over Tauriel with Gizzy B and I although he admitted that he hasn’t seen the second movie yet — but that doesn’t mean he didn’t know how kickass she was ;). Meanwhile, Dean narrowed his eyes at me and said, “Hmm. Elves.” I love him deeply, you guys. SO DEEPLY.
Fingers crossed for one final party in 2015 to celebrate the end of another trilogy. I am already excited for The Hobbit: There and Back Again and will be incredibly sad to see the final movie. As much as we nerd-complain about splitting the book into three movies, the journey to Middle Earth will always remain magical for us.
