GeekFest Film is looking for entries and all they want it all GEEK, GEEK, GEEK! They are searching for web series, trailers, fan films, etc. in every genre including science fiction, fantasy, comic book related, horror and many more. GeekFest will be a traveling film festival programmed at different pop culture expos and promises indie creators potential exposure to thousands of audiences. Creator and founder of GeekFest, William Ostroff, told Defective Geeks that the idea for GeekFest has been formulating for years.
Ostroff has been producing independent film festivals for 17 years. He is also an avid convention goer for many years with a love for Star Wars and a comic book collection that dates back from when he was in elementary school. His two biggest icons are George Lucas and Stan Lee so it would seem that creating a geek film festival would be his destiny. He was inspired while attending a smaller convention that lacked any big film festival that celebrated indie creators.
“I figured why not create a traveling film festival for geeks, by geeks, filled with quality geek created content, in turn offering a turnkey solution to smaller cons that don’t have the manpower or experience in creating a film fest, and offering indie filmmakers who create genre films the opportunity to be seen all over the country,” Ostroff said.
“My hopes are that con attendees will embrace the opportunity to see great indie genre programming and inspire other creatives to create.”
He plans to partner with different conventions and wants to encourage each convention to “add its own flavor” to the film fest, which would mean that each GeekFest event will prove to be quite unique wherever it goes. The ultimate goal is to culminate it into an annual event – with award ceremonies, screenings and celebrities– in Los Angeles and bring creators and audiences who are passionate about filmmaking.
