YALLFest started in 2011 in the East Coast, a festival that gathered authors and hosted panels, events and signings for Young Adult fans to enjoy. This year, YALLWest (the West Coast version) was born in Santa Monica, California. This casual festival was packed with awesome guests including our friend, Marie Lu (Legend, Young Elites), Leigh Bardugo (Shadow and Bone), Ransom Riggs (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Veronica Roth (Divergent) and many, many more!
I stopped by the festival to check it out and to show support for Marie, who I knew was working hard to bring the festival together with her fellow writers and the rest of the staff members. The festival was held at the Santa Monica High School and it was awesome to see the crowd of readers and fans on the school campus. All ages of YA readers were present, buying books, lining up for signings and different panels. There was a certain buzz of excitement in the air that only book nerds would appreciate.
Every panel we peeked into was crowded with tons of people — definitely a great turn out for the festival’s first year.
Local fans and readers should definitely check out this festival when it returns next year. There are so many local authors and this is a great way to see them all in once place. The festival does a great job of bringing them together through panels and just getting them to have fun on stage.
