My head is spinning, you guys.
I wanted to do a New Year wrap up of which comic book movies were my favorite in 2016, but it’s hard to even keep track of all of them. Isn’t it strange to think that not that long ago, we geeks were constantly thirsty for superhero movies? Now, we’re pretty much drowning in them. Not that I’m complaining.
Deadpool is one of the clear winners for me in 2016. Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of the character is 100% perfect. There has never been a more accurate depiction of a character from comic to film… and good news everyone, Dopinder will be back for Deadpool 2. Who else were worried about him and his little accident towards the end of the last movie? I was.
Captain America: Civil War is my second favorite from last year. I rewatched the fight scene between Team Steve and Team Tony recently and I still got chills. Nerdy, nerdy chills. I also love how the movie introduced the new Spider-Man, who is so adorable I want to put him in my pocket. I almost don’t mind that they are remaking the franchise again. Plus, Michael Keaton is playing Vulture in Homecoming!
Honorable mention aka SUPER GUILTY PLEASURE: Suicide Squad. Let’s face it. That quick shot of Harley Quinn while she wore her Animated Series/original costume was totally worth this entire movie. I do love how Margot Robbie played the character and I think she did her justice.
This year, I am looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Wonder Woman, Kingsmen: The Golden Circle and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Comic book movies will continue to do well in the box office and each wave just becomes stronger as filmmakers are finally starting to trust original sources. Let’s stop trying to change what works, right? Catwoman doesn’t need to be working for a make-up company… (forever bitter…).
Which moves are you looking forward to in 2017?
