Most SDCC attendees probably noticed the Heroes carnival that was set up across the street from the convention center. We checked it out late one night!










Can't wait for the next season... I still love this show!!!

On Saturday, I attended a Nickelodeon panel for The Penguins of Madagascar because one of my favorite voice actors of ALL TIME would be there, Jeff Bennett. The cast did an episode read out loud which is always great to see for someone who appreciates voice acting like I do. My inner child burst into happy sparkles at the chance of witnessing Mr. Bennett do his voice acting magic.



After the panel, I quickly went up to the table to say a few words to Mr. Bennett; but when my turn came, I promptly bursts into tears.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen... flirting with celebs is easy as pie for me, but when it comes to the people who worked on my favorite cartoons growing up, I turn into a giant, weeping mess! It was quite embarrassing and I'm pretty sure Mr. Bennett was really turned off by it... oh well, it's not the first time I've done this. I cried at the POSSIBILITY of meeting Tom Ruegger (creator of Animaniacs... and it never happened- which could be a good thing since I can't seem to keep my composure around these people!). I didn't quite cry as hard when I met Rob Paulsen, but just got extremely teary eyed.

Jeff Bennett was truly a favorite of mine growing up though, and I followed his work for many, many years. I admired him and even had a little voice "crush"! I wished I had conveyed to him what meeting him really meant to me, how for many years my cousin and I didn't speak of anything else but hoping to meet the man behind our favorite voices on television! Instead, I just managed to make him feel really uncomfortable. I totally suck!



Needless to say, I was emotionally charged and weepy for the rest of the day after that. I know... I'm a big loser. Ha!

Although, I have to mention that the people of Nickelodeon were so sweet to me. Especially one guy who was very, very nice to me at the end of the panel and gave me some goodies to try and console my crying. Whoever you are, I'm sorry I didn't get your name but I am so grateful! Thank you!

Fortunately for me, two panels I wanted to see were consecutive in the same room. My friend, Giselle, and I enjoyed the Coraline panel with Neil Gaiman, who I was delighted to see in person. The FlashForward panel was right after, which we wanted to stick around for just to see John Cho in person.



What can I say? I love, love, LOVE the Harold and Kumar flicks, and not to mention he was pretty awesome as Young Sulu.

Giselle and I also ended up channeling our own inner Twitardness that weekend and flipped our shit when they bought Dominic Monaghan out as a special, surprise guest on the panel! Since the Lord of the Rings trilogy came out, the hobbit actors has been kind of our Beatles for awhile... specifically Mr. Monaghan, who made us swoon in all sorts of horrible, fangirl ways (ew, girls swooning!).

They also screened about half of the pilot for the audience and admittedly, I am already hooked! The plot has an apocalyptic sort of theme, which I am a sucker for. I recommend it for anyone looking for a good, sci-fi series to follow on a network channel. It'll premiere on ABC in the fall season!

After dawdling a bit and running into Gene Simmons outside the panel rooms, we headed down to the Exhibit Hall to look for the FlashForward signing (in hopes that Dominic will be there, too...). I spotted Adam Baldwin on the floor, charging people for autographs and photos-- and I gladly paid the $10 to take a picture with him! The X-Files and Firefly geek in me couldn't pass up the chance!

To our surprise, the line for FlashFoward wasn't filled up already by the time we got there. It was even one of the more faster lines I stood in during the convention! I wished I had said something more than "Can I take a photo with you guys?"; but things move quickly in these lines and I was busy trying to get Giselle's photos with her screenwriter hero, David S. Goyer. Such is a con-life, I suppose.





Obviously, Dom did not show up for the signing... :( But I lived. Don't worry.

Since my friends and I drove in the Thursday of the convention (arrived at our hotel at around 11am), we basically missed a lot of the panels that day. My friends braved the Hall H line, but I dove inside the Exhibit hall with my boyfriend because he wanted to "absorb" the convention (he hasn't been to a comic convention for a long, long time...).

The highlight of my day was when I spotted the gaggle of Twitards waiting for Robert Pattinson to come out of Hall H after the Twilight panel...



I decided to gaggle with them because, honestly... what can be more amusing than a bunch of teeners (...and middle aged women) going nuts over a guy who played an emo vampire? Ha! The conversation between those girls are too funny. Really idiotic. But kind of sweet and funny. I was rewarded at the end when R-Pattz drove and a handful of Twitards chased his car down the street.

After that, I lined up for ballroom 20 and managed to get into the Dexter panel! I do appreciate sitting in the same room as Michael C. Hall.

Then, I reunited with my friends and we found... the Epic Burrito.

I present to everyone a rant about SDCC before I start posting my happy report and photos...

San Diego Comic Con has turned into a marathon of how many celebrities can be spotted-- kind of sad. Especially when you see the separation in the Exhibit Hall; the "movie side" is always hella crowded and the "comic book" side is never as crowded. But the convention has gotten stupider like that each year, so I didn't expect any less from its star-struck attendees. Besides, I'm guilty of getting excited over John Cho and Dominic Monaghan myself...

... Though less appreciative of Robert Downey Jr's Elite bodyguards shoving me out of the way. What a bunch of dicks. This always seems to happen to me at this con. I am unsuspectingly in the way of some A-list celeb I could give a shit about harassing in person, so I get manhandled. One of these days, I'm going to kick someone in the nuts for it.

And then don't get me started on the ridiculous lines for the panels. It's getting really stupid, guys, and someone needs to start using their noggin' to find a solution for it. Trust me, it's not that hard to solve the problem. People should not be standing in line for 2-3 hours and then only to not be guaranteed a seat to a panel they want to see. We aren't paying for these badges, taking time off from work, and spending hundreds on hotel/food/etc. to waste away in the sun while standing in line.

To think... they plan to raise the badge prices next year too. Thank goodness I get in as a pro!

It's this weekend already! The mecca of comic book geeks alike! Comic-Con in San Diego!

Once again, Nancy and I will BOTH be attending the convention, armed with our own agenda and schedule of panels we would like to see. I really hope I can get into at least a couple of awesome panels this year. Of course, I hope to meet cool and talented people too.

Not only was Crusaders & Haters full of superhero fun-- but myself and fellow blogger, Nancy (aka Mjade) has been reunited after two years! Whew! It's been awhile! But she is currently visiting from England up until Comic-Con in San Diego next weekend.

These type of nerdy parties are more of my scene than hers, so we all appreciate her making the effort to attend! GO NANCY!

This is by far one of the more crowded Royal-T event that I've attended. The art show was curated by Danie Franzese, and the costume opening party was organized by the lovely Mandy of ZIPPERCUT. Good music, good crowd, and a great photographer (Drew Yoon) was present to take pictures at the photo booth.

Of course, the usual crowd of ladies-- and some gentlemen!-- who loves to dress up attended sporting some great costumes!

Who said nerds couldn't have a classy and fun party?

A super hero themed art show! Opening night is this Friday night, at Royal-T in Culver City, CA!

I'm trying to put together a last minute superhero inspired outfit. I might need to make a cape... I know loads of other people will be putting together really elaborate and wonderful costumes, so don't miss out!

I had no great desire to attend Anime Expo this year because of fading interest of the whole cosplay and fandom scene. Also, 90% of anime convention attendees challenges my patience on many-a-levels and the lack of dignity from a lot of these kids just makes me throw up in my mouth a little mostly...! The cosplay scene, in my opinion, has deteriorated save for a handful of cosplayers who still make a good effort and have it show.

Then again, this could just be the blatter of a bitter, older, ex-cosplayer who just can't relate to the new generation of convention goers... either way, I can't deal with the random "glomping", non-sensical screaming and those fucking YAOI paddles-- honestly, people truly need to get BEATEN with those things. Why do people feel the need to drop common social courtesy inside an anime convention? It's a mystery!

I can go on and on about this really.

Now for the true convention report. I felt more relaxed without the hassle of cosplaying and my main purpose at the convention was to check out the artist alley. A couple of my friends had tables, including my family who owns Fuzz Academy! I worked at the Funimation booth for three hours on Friday, and again on Sunday. I showed up briefly on Saturday to deliver black socks for my friend's cosplay (I'm a good friend, dammit)

I did mostly a lot of walking around taking photos of cosplayers I liked. I poked at the Exhibit Hall booths but ended up buying nothing; though the temptation to buy a pink or yellow PSP almost got me at one point... I ended up buying three prints at Artist Alley from three artists that really stood out for me. I'm pretty impressed with this new wave of artist alleys at convention, having it become MORE than just artists taking commissions at their tables. There are all kinds of merchandise on sale these days. I fear everything gets a little bit muddled as each table seem to offer the same "chibi" keychains over and over again. But, I am glad I found three really beautiful art prints that will hang on my walls some day!

The more exciting event for me was when my friend and I accidentally stumbled upon the autograph area for the cast of Power Rangers. Lucky for us, the original actor for the Black Ranger was there! He was an incredibly nice guy and he hasn't aged a year!

Overall, the convention is not as special as it used to be for me. I'm sure it still is for many of the younger generation and for those who still dedicate themselves to convention attendance and cosplay. I can't say it's not cool to have a place for like-minded geeks to get together, right?

On another note, this is the first time I've gotten sick after a convention! Which is ironic since I took it easy this year too. I had stupidly posed in thin costumes in snow and yet it's the Los Angeles summer that eventually got me!
