Cosplay Showcase: Code Geass

If you’ve known me for at least five seconds, you’ll know that Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is one of my favorite anime.  It is the beautiful yet explosive heartbreaking tale of an exiled prince-turned-terrorist and his best friend. And Pizza Hut. What’s not to love? And you have to have a lot of love to cosplay Code Geass. From the student uniforms to the elegant ballgowns, one has to do a lot of work to put into bringing the outfits to life.

I could honestly do a cosplay showcase for every character from this show because there’s so many stunning and thoughtful photos but here’s just a snippet overall:

Cosplay Showcase: Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan took the cosplay world by storm when the 2013 anime broke onto the scene and it hasn’t let go since. Cosplayers all over the world devoted their hearts to the colossal task of bringing the series to life and it was a long arduous journey full of blood, sweat and tears for many. I know this because I cosplay Mikasa and I felt like getting eaten by a titan might have been less painful than creating everything from scratch. The costumes and props themselves require so much attention to detail – from the maze of a full body harness to the daunting Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear – that seeing people produce such craftsmanship fills my heart with great pride. As a fellow Attack on Titan cosplayer, I SALUTE YOU!

Check out a slice of the cosplay that blew my mind below! Continue reading

Visit Fortune Cookie at Fanime 2013!

Last minute, I know but I will be at Fanime this year! The convention is from May 24-27th in San Jose, CA and is one of my favorite conventions! There’s been a lot of weird hiccups due to the construction on the property so I am hoping that it’s not too hectic…

I am doing Artist Alley and I will be at table 266 with my usual partner-in-crime Yume Darling!

Please stop by our table to visit! I’d love to chat! I’m also up for interviewing cosplayers and other anime fans for an upcoming Defective Geeks convention report. :)

We will have a color-blocked tablecloth…the top part being this very pretty sakura pink lace material.

From Anime Expo 2011 with my friend Yan and an army of Kyubey.

Sorry, pony cloth. We had a good run but it’s time for something new! (Somehow it still ended up pink…)

Making a Splash! The “Swimming Anime”

There’s this new animation circling around YouTube within the fangirl community and it’s gotten everyone into a tizzy.

Summer’s come early and it’s hot hot hot! Just what is this thing and why is everyone abuzz about it?

It is this ad for Kyoto Animation showcasing an untitled project about a men’s swim team.  This project actually dipped its toes in the pool in April 2012 when Animation Do (a property of Kyoto Animation) made an announcement for an untitled concept. The following two images were the only things released at the time.

A Dolly Good Time!

The Dolly House Runway Show invited us to attend their show last weekend at UCI! It was their first fashion show and everyone was super excited and gathered to support their favorite designers and to share their love for Lolita fashion.

Lolita fashion culture is a very fanciful one filled with a rainbow of color and soft and cute accessories. It has has floated across the world and has given many young women a very cute and creative way to express themselves beyond the norm. Even if I am not a part of the culture, I can certainly appreciate the time and effort it takes to be a lolita.

Pictures and a write up not good enough for you to absorb all the awesomeness of our time at Free Comic Book Day at The Comic Bug?

Have no fear! I’ve whipped up a video for you! Inside are interviews with geeks young and young at heart, brief looks around the event, and a special interview with Ryan with The Hero Initiative: a not-for-profit organization to help give comic book creators the financial support they need!

Hetalia: World Series review

Lookit what Funimation‘s sent over! Man, they’re super nice. :D

Hetalia: World Series is the third installment of the worldwide phenomenon of Axis Powers Hetalia but is considered a separate series from the previous two seasons. It is based on the web comic written and drawn by Hidekazu Himaruya and depict countries as pretty boys (and girls) and their interactions with one another in a mostly 4-panel comic format.

The setting ranges from ancient times to the modern era but started out mostly as a comic poking fun at Italy during World War II.

The name itself comes from the combination of the Japanese word hetare ([cutely] “useless”) and “Italia”. TL;DR: Hetalia = Useless Italy.

World Series pulls away from the topic of the two World Wars because the comic became more more about silly antics rather than the loose story of Axis vs. Allies. Because of this, there is a clear distinction between the two series and is treated as such even though it contains the same sort of humor and features the same cast.
