Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Shine, Shine, Shines Once Again in Los Angeles

Every year, a tiny, beautiful part of Los Angeles gets transformed into a fantasy realm for the annual Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade, produced by Sypher Studios. The event occurs in just one week, on August 5th and 6th, 2016,

Now in its 17th year, the masquerade ball is in its second year at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, a storied historic building in downtown Los Angeles, built in 1923 in the Renaissance and Mediterranean Revival style, and home to the early years of the Academy Awards ceremonies.

We are giving away a pair of tickets to both Friday and Saturday of the masquerade! See bottom of article for how to enter!

Find Your D’Arcy & Live Your Regency Dreams: The Jane Austen Evening

As a rabid Jane-ite, one who considers themselves an expert in all things Jane Austen, I was pleased as a Regency spiked punch to be able to attend the Jane Austen Evening this year, which is held annually at the Pasadena Masonic Lodge by the Society for Manners and Merriment.

The event consistently sells out within minutes online, with lucky patrons being able to choose between just the dance ticket, or combining it with a sit down tea service beforehand. Although the demand for tickets continues to grow, the Society for Manners and Merriment insists on keeping the venue and the size that it is, to ensure a unique, intimate, and carefully crafted event for its patrons.
If you are curious about this event, but wonder what to wear, worry not! Even though there is often a plethora of beautiful regency garments worn by attendees, the ball also welcomes those without timeline appropriate attire to simply wear formal dress clothes.
Step into the world of Jane Austen, and check out some of the beautiful garments, dances, and decor of this wonderful event!

Defective Geeks at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo 2015!

We were super excited to be a part of the action at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo this past weekend with our friends at the Comic Bug!

The Comic Bug brought their community of talented creators to Comikaze with a “pavilion” which consisted of  long rows of tables at the artist alley featuring comic artists, writers and even the new geek dating app, Cuddli. We got to sit and hang out next to artists like Dave Crosland, Jim Mahfood, Richard Starkings, Rafael Navarro and many, many more.

To add to the fun, we created cards that let fans express what their feelings about geeks or fangirls are. We hoped to spark conversation and pride in being a geek girl, and people did not disappoint! Take a look at some of the empowering answers, artwork, and awesome cosplay we saw from the Comikaze con-goers.

Love Live premiere in Los Angeles: Cry all your sparkly, weeaboo tears

If you are into anime at all, there’s no way you haven’t heard of Love Live, the insanely popular series that tells the story of a group of girls that saves their school by becoming an idol group, and gaining popularity by singing and dancing their way into people’s hearts, creating more new students for the small, failing school.

With two seasons under their belt, the 9 girls of LoveLive finish their story arc with their feature film, LoveLive! The School Idol Movie, debuting all of the world this past weekend. (Don’t worry, they are planning a new season, but it will feature different girls at a different school striving to be idols!)

lovelive

NIS America distributed the LoveLive! movie across the US, including several sold out weekend showings at the Downtown Independent Cinema in Los Angeles, CA. Luckily, we (YumeNinja and Myself, ChubbyBunny Michelle) were able to score some tickets and join our weeaboo brethren to the path of our trash life, haha.

Check out our photos of fans from the Sunday showing, and then, my very, very fangirl version of a review. Spoilers below!
