Vampire Themed Gifts – Surviving the Summer Drought of TVD

I'm a Vampire.
I’m a Vampire.

Graduations are almost over, wedding season has started, and reruns of The Vampire Diaries leave me thirsty for a few new things. If you know a grad, birthday gal or bachelorette who has a thing for vamps this short list of items might peek your interest.

If you’re a fan of Adventure Time and vampires a Marceline The Vampire Queen T-Shirt is a pretty solid choice if you have to buy something last minute.

Vampires, Werewolves, and Erotica Oh My!

If you are a fan of vampires, witches, werewolves, or even Angels then you are most likely a fan of Anne Rice. However, very few of the adventurous readers I know have gotten around to “The Sleeping Beauty” series that was originally published under the pseudonym A.N. Roquelaure back in the 1980’s before she was a seasoned writer. I came across Rice’s stories while in high school and slowly made my way through her catalog of books during the late 1990’s. To my surprise no one I knew had heard of these books. I soon realized this was not a story meant for a younger audience, but like the main character aptly named Beauty, a literary sexual awakening was sitting in my lap! I didn’t really know what the meaning of phallus was, but I was soon introduced to a plethora of sexual terminology that has had me intrigued for years to come. Fans of erotica know “50 Shades of Grey” is nothing compared to this erotica series. Why read about a billionaire sociopath when you can read about a whole kingdom dedicated to sexual foreplay and eroticism? A WHOLE KINGDOM PEEPS! There is even a village outside the kingdom that tributes, such as Beauty, are sent to when people are punished for not being subservient. It sounds crazy! Crazy awesome.

Tomo Neko Maid Cafe Benefiting The Trevor Project

Tomo Neko Maid Cafe

This past Sunday I ventured into Little Tokyo to take part in the Tomo Neko Maid Cafe event benefiting The Trevor Project which provides suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to teenagers for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth. This is Tomo Neko Production’s third year partnering with a different charitable organization to help raise awareness through a leisurely atmosphere filled with Cosplay, video games, entertainment, and Japanese food held at the Japanese American National Museum for the first time. This isn’t your grandma’s type of charity function.

Board Games Galore!

In anticipation of  International Table Top Day on Saturday, March 3oth (the same weekend as WonderCon, I know!) I am sharing one of my all-time favorite games Lords of Waterdeep! I know I’ll incidentally leave out a few key things about the game because I’d like to keep this a little simple. I’ll do my best to explain the game, tell you why I love it, and convince you to try it for yourself, or even buy it! ;)

Comics, Its What’s For Dinner

All of us geeks know a few things about comics and love to find a new diamond in the rough when the occasion presents itself. I’m fortunate enough to also have a fiancé who knows my taste in graphic novels and surprises me every few months with something new for me to obsess over. This was how I was introduced to the comic Irredeemable written by Mark Waid first drawn by Peter Krause and then taken over by father and son team Diego and Eduardo Barreto. I also became a HUGE fan of Brian K. Vaughn after reading Y:The Last Man and sought out the new on-going series Saga written by Brian K. Vaughn and artist Fiona Staples. Both titles have not disappointed.

Irredeemable just recently ended, but since I’ve been following it in trade paperbacks I’ve been behind on my reading, and I was only recently able to catch up with the story and devour it a week ago.
