Trader Sam’s, the Awesome BadAss Bastard Child of The Tiki Room

So after many failed missions to go to the famed Trader Sam’s the interactive Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel, where certain drinks allegedly made bar stools go down and Volcanoes erupt, my friends and I finally checked it out last week. Giselle, Quintein and I marveled at the ambiance of the place. It IS like a disneyland attraction but a BAR at the same time- Very much like the bad-ass child of the Tiki-Room. Trader Sam’s is also filled with many gifts and letters from friends such as Indiana Jones and one Captain Jack Sparrow.

While Quintein and I looked through the awesome island themed drinks, Giselle announced she was going to order a secret drink! THE NEVERLAND TEA!!!! Which if I had an android phone at the time I would’ve hopped right on the internet to look up the secret menu. I resolved to check it out as soon as I had a chance.

That night Quintein and I ordered the Uh-Oa! drink which came in a bowl set ABLAZE, the bar went dark, a volcano started to erupt as everyone joined in the “Uh-Oa!” chant while Quintein and I tossed nutmeg into the flames to make FIREWORKS!! Oh and it started raining in the bar.

That drink was so awesome, IT SET FIRE TO THE RAIN

Zachary Levi, Comic-Con and Cosplay

When @thenerdmachine Twitter account asked for cosplay volunteers for a short movie, I decided to jump on it. I haven’t officially cosplayed for a long, long time but I was feeling quite adventurous. I’m not the type to throw myself in front of a camera on a regular basis (mah ugly mug!)  but I had a great time when I was on set for The Guild last year. It was a great experience and a chance to meet like-minded people.

On set with Zachary Levi!

As you can see, it was totally worth it to drive an hour to set on a Saturday morning and wearing a costume in super hot weather — just to get my photo with Zachary Levi (Chuck)! For those who didn’t know, The Nerd Machine is Levi’s company and of course, he was the leading man in the film they were shooting that weekend.

‘Cleopatra: The Exhibit’ at the California Science Center

Cleopatra: The Exhibit @ California Science Center

Cleopatra — she ruled the men who ruled the world…

They called her the most famous woman in history. It’s true – most know her by name even if we don’t really know what she looks like. Despite all the movies and art created based on her assumed beauty and life, the truth about the last queen of Egypt remains a true mystery. When the Roman Empire demolished her empire, they destroyed her image and rewrote her history. They painted her as nothing but a seductress who used her charm to manipulate powerful men. That is only partly true.

Strawberry Shorts + Fair

Last night I went to a Short Film Festival called Strawberry Shorts.

It was held at a Buddhist Centre which is actually a renovated 1800s theatre. It was a really nice little space, perfect for watching short films.

TRAVEL: Hawaii, the Land of Pineapples and Spam

Jon and Sun's Wedding

I had a nice, long vacation in Hawaii earlier this month to attend a friend’s wedding. This was my first time in Hawaii and although I’ve had my nerd pants on for many years, running away from the sun in order to keep my pale, geek pallor I was actually looking forward to lying down on the sand for days and tanning. Perhaps it was my body’s way of saying that I should probably get my share sunlight at some point in my life? Perhaps…

TRAVEL: Space Pirate Queen in Bologna, Italy

Bologna, Italy (Day Three)

I’m a lucky girl. A few months ago, Marie Lu asked me to accompany her on her business trip to Bologna, Italy and I happily obliged! Despite the fact that she had work for 70% of the time during the trip, we had a great bonding experience.

Otherwise, while she worked and met with her international publishers, I wandered around the city on my own and ate gelato every day. I did a lot of sight seeing although I have to admit, my favorite part was the food, the wine and just sitting at an open cafe while enjoying the warm sun. I’ve become a fan of Bologna.

Brighton Beach

I recently went on an adventure to Brighton. I’d never been before, but heard amazing things, so I was really excited.

We went by train and from the station marched directly to the sea shore. It’s about a 15 minute walk, but down hill and only difficult if you have large luggage.

Spider Silk

Last Saturday, I made a trip to the Victoria and Albert museum. My first trip there! (Which is very negligent considering how long I’ve lived in England and near London, but hey ho).

I plan on making many return trips as the museum is huge and has an amazing collection.
