Space Pirate Queen’s Geek Friday Gift Guide 2015

Ah, yes, here we are. Thanksgiving is over. Some of you are probably a lot like me and is just spending this Friday doing some lazy window shopping online. Ladies, there are now too many adorable “geek” things for us to buy for ourselves and our equally dorky friends. Can you believe it? It wasn’t so long ago we’d had to scrape the Hot Topic stores to find anything to represent our pop-culture tastes. Here are my personal picks for this year in case you still need a little help narrowing down what to buy!

We’ve spotlighted RedBubble.com before because they are pretty awesome. Currently, they are having their Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales and they kindly shared their discount codes with us. For Black Friday, use BF20 and on Cyber Monday use CM20 to get 20% off your purchases!

Awesome Fanfic Monday: Batman and Robin… and the Titanic

Welcome to another chapter of Awesome Fanfic Monday!

As you all know I love my crossovers and I love my parodies. Naturally when I find a fanfic that is both a crossover AND a parody, well, I am just tickled. This fanfic is a personal favorite of mine that I reread every once in a while because it is just delightful. The author combines one of the most well received movies of all time, Titanic, with one of the most infamous and criticized pieces of celluloid ever, Batman and Robin. What do these two movies make when combined? Absolute gold.

I don't know who made this, but it's amazing

Fanart GLEE: Star Wars, The Force Awakens

I’m sure you all can believe it, but there are already tons of Star Wars: The Force Awakens fan art that exist on the internet. Without knowing much about the movie still—besides that it will be super awesome, of course— fans have already shown their enthusiasm in so many ways. Isn’t it cool we live in the digital world where we can see, watch and listen to other people in fandom freak out over a movie that isn’t even out yet?

I’ve always been a fan of “girl power” and what not. A group of badass women who form tight-knit groups to kick butt? Sign me up! Birds of Prey is DC’s more popular girl group, the more known characters are The Oracle (Barbara Gordon), the Black Canary and Huntress — do you guys remember the television show from 2002?! I hope during this age of comic books in the media, they bring it back…

Who is YOUR favorite Birds of Prey hero?

Awesome Fanfic Monday: Obi-Wan and Loki Drinking Buds

Since the new glorious trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out next week I have been on a galactic high. After the thousandth time watching the trailer I watched the wonderful video of Patton Oswalt’s Avengers and Star Wars crossover. It inspired me to look at crossover fanfiction between these two fictional universes. My search led me to a pretty sweet one on one between Obi Wan and Loki.

Horrible Horror Movie Wednesday: Leprechaun in Space!

Hello everyone and welcome to the very first post of our brand new segment “Horrible Horror Movie Wednesday!”

I love scary movies and I love every sub-genre of horror. Everything from supernatural to thriller to slasher is my cup of tea. There is a specific sub-genre that has a special place in my heart though and that is, well, the not so great horror movies. We’ve all seen them. You know, the acting may not be the best, or you can see the tag hanging out of the mask for the “scary monster” as he’s attacking some half naked woman. Or maybe it takes place in space. You have to love a horror movie sequel that takes place in space.

Anyway, my point is that I love these movies because so much sincerity and effort goes into them and there is a lot more honesty with them than a lot of high production highfalutin POS’s out there. They’re fun, pure and simple, and I respect and appreciate that.

For the record this segment is called “Horrible Horror Movies” NOT because the movies are necessarily horrible, it’s just that the title has damn good alliteration. Let’s face it, that rolls off the tongue a lot more than “Horror films that aren’t quite good, but they’re made with honesty and are a lot of fun and I am writing this respectfully.” Am I right or am I right?

So, without any more interruption, I present to you our very first Horrible Horror movie: Leprechaun 4: In Space.

The X-Files: Why I Choose to Be Optimistic

At this very moment, we are all getting bombarded with nostalgic marketing. All our favorites have been rebooted or are getting a reboot. They won’t stop putting Batman on the big screen and people are ready to sell their first-born for a Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie ticket… admit it, you considered it amidst yesterday’s advance-ticket-pocalypse. Even Gilmore Girls is getting a renewal via Netflix (don’t ask me why).

Meanwhile, I am sitting here and eating up anything and everything that has to do with the new X-Files season that will premiere in January 2016. Six whole new episodes of my favorite show ever and ever? I need it. I want it.

Fanart GLEE: Daryl Dixon

The truth is, I haven’t seen a more dedicated fandom than the one for Daryl Dixon. You know, that guy from The Walking Dead television series that all fangirls and fanboys are a little nutty over.  I recently just finished a marathon of season 5 of the show and got quite a healthy Norman Reedus dosage while watching the episodes back to back. Which is why this week’s Fanart GLEE is dedicated to Daryl, the most beloved zombie-killer across the nation.
