Death Metal for Piano and Cello (2005) (mp3) I wrote this as a tribute to my brother Gavin and to my friend AJ, without whom I would not have become familiar with Death Metal and Hardcore music. Actually, according to what AJ tells me, this would be closer to 'Hardcore' than it is to 'Death Metal'. Oh well. I tried.

This is a suite for clarinet trio written in the style of NES video game music. It was extremely fun to write (classic Nintendo games being very close to my heart). Each movement presents a typical scenario in found in video games. Eight-bit Trio will be performed with live performers in the fall!

Cookies 'n' Cream (2005) (midi) A piece for trumpet and piano, commissioned by my pal Max Hembd.

Loops and Lines (2005) (mp3)
Performed by the UCLA Philharmonic Orchestra
My first attempt at composing for a full orchestra. Thanks to Dr. Paul Chihara, who gave me and my classmates the opportunity to hear our pieces and record them.

February Quartet (2005) (mp3) A short piece written for horn, harp, violin, and cello. This is the second of two odd-ball quartets done as an assignment in my orchestration class with Dr. Paul Chihara.

December Quartet (2004) (midi)

Purple Quartet (2004) (mp3)
Performed by Sally Yeh and Minah Oh, violin; Alison Spieth, viola; Jason Aiello, cello.
Electronic version (created by Sean Friar) ----> (mp3)
Halfway through writing it, I heard Philip Glass for the first time- and so there's a pretty obvious "Philip Glass" section in the middle. Hearing this performed was the highlight of my freshman year at college.

Mirrors (2003) (midi) This is just some fun piece stuck in midi-land. It sounds a LOT like Steve Reich.

Reichish (2003) (midi) Sounds like Steve Reich. Never finished it.

Night Journey (2000) (mp3)
Performed by the Woodbridge High School Orchestra; Joslynne Blasdel conducting.
I got my school orchestra to play this piece my freshman year of High School. I'm playing bass!! It was pretty awesome, since I had never gotten to hear anyone other than myself play my music before.

The Duel of Popeye and Brutus (1999) (midi) I was working on music at the computer one night, when my brother Brian came in and told me half-jokingly to write a piece about Popeye playing that little sailor's tune on an accordion while Brutus plays the trombone- and they're trying to upstage each other, competing for Olive Oyl's love. A little while later, this was the result. God, I wish I could play the accordion like that.

Different Shades on a Fife Tune Used in the Civil War (The Girl I Left Behind Me) (1998) (midi) I wrote this as background music for my powerpoint presentation on the Civil War. Later on, I orchestrated it and had it performed by my highschool orchestra.
