Comics and Conventions in Long Beach
The first Long Beach Comic Con came and went this past weekend. I was only in attendance on Saturday, but I felt like the convention was a success. I had a relaxing time walking around the exhibit hall, poking through the artist alley, and chatting with local friends. I loved the "small con" feeling! Unfortunately, none of the panels really interested me but that didn't subtract from the ultimate experience. The line for Jim Lee took a long time to move as he was late to his signing, but the line was not long at all. Although by the time it was our turn to see him, he was rushed and couldn't take the time to do but a quick autograph and doodle, instead of a sketch. I guess you can't really complain though! Me and Jim Lee!I didn't have much of meet-and-greet agenda which made it a more pleasant surprise to meet actor and writer, Mike McMillian of Archaia Comics. Mike McMillian signing a 'Lucid' posterWhat a fantastic guy! He was completely personable. I have yet to see an episode of True Blood, but he is currently playing one of the bigger roles in the TV show. He didn't give off a Mister-Hollywood-Vibe though. It was unfortunate that his presence wasn't advertised enough because there was no line during his signing. I even went back a second time to chat with him and get a second signed poster for a friend. I hope his comic book series will become a success! The encounter peaked my interest in Archaia too and will probably check out more of their books in the future. I hope this convention keeps coming back every year! It was loads of fun!

San Diego Comic Com 2009 - Report Part 4
Most SDCC attendees probably noticed the Heroes carnival that was set up across the street from the convention center. We checked it out late one night!

Can't wait for the next season... I still love this show!!! Labels: convention, event, Heroes, san diego comic con, sdcc, sdcc 2009
San Diego Comic Com 2009 - Report Part 1
Since my friends and I drove in the Thursday of the convention (arrived at our hotel at around 11am), we basically missed a lot of the panels that day. My friends braved the Hall H line, but I dove inside the Exhibit hall with my boyfriend because he wanted to "absorb" the convention (he hasn't been to a comic convention for a long, long time...).
Star Trek is cool again! The highlight of my day was when I spotted the gaggle of Twitards waiting for Robert Pattinson to come out of Hall H after the Twilight panel... I decided to gaggle with them because, honestly... what can be more amusing than a bunch of teeners (...and middle aged women) going nuts over a guy who played an emo vampire? Ha! The conversation between those girls are too funny. Really idiotic. But kind of sweet and funny. I was rewarded at the end when R-Pattz drove and a handful of Twitards chased his car down the street.
View the larger size of the photo to see R-Pattz grinning like a maniac behind the tinted window of the car... Anyone know if him and the other cast members were stoned again...?

The car getting surrounded by girls and paparazzi. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!After that, I lined up for ballroom 20 and managed to get into the Dexter panel! I do appreciate sitting in the same room as Michael C. Hall. Then, I reunited with my friends and we found... the Epic Burrito.

Comic-Con 2007 - Initial Report
San Diego Comic-Con 2007, much like it's previous years, was huge with too many people nerding all over the place. This year, I was a half a regular attendee, and then I had one foot in the "professional" side of things. I was with my good friend, Christy Lijewski (creator of Next Exit and RE:Play), for the most part, accompanying her to her panels, signings, and talking to different comic book publishers. Needless to say, it was very interesting for me! Unfortunately, despite attending the convention for all four days, I managed to miss most of the people I had wanted to see. I definetely made it a point to say hello to David Mack and Stuart Sayger. I also found Aimee Major and she drew adorable cats for me. I also picked up Mack's The Shy Creatures book, which is all together delightful to own. I kept my eye out for people I knew from the Bendis Board but never found any of them. I don't know too many of them, really, and many of them do not know me for I fail to be active on the forums anymore. It's been years since I saw Pat Loika or Taki Soma though and I do miss them. I didn't really get to attend a lot of panels. I attempted to get into the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" panel, but failed miserably as the room filled up quickly. I hate standing in line... and I stood in line for that one, too! My friends and I got into the Futurama panel, which was a lot of fun as a lot of the voice actors were present for it. Futurama fans can look forward to new movies coming soon. I missed the Live Art party on Friday, but I did get to attend another great party on Saturday night-- though the details of that party should be kept a secret among us. Yes. It was that awesome. Sorry... no dirty stories about myself here! Only about other people. Overall, the convention wasn't too bad. Even though Saturday sold out, the crowd wasn't as bad I expected. The convention did an amazing job controlling the crowd and I am very appreciative of it. It was exhausting having to be there for all four days and I wished I had done more and seen more people-- but that's always seem to be the general feeling that Comic-con always leave me with. Pictures and more will come soon! Labels: christy lijewski, comiccon, comics, convention, david mack, futurama
One of my favorite convention is Wizard World Los Angeles, and I've had much fantastic memories of the convention from all the years I attended. This year was full of good memories and fun, but I must admit, it wasn't the best Wizard World I attended. The convention moved from the Long Beach Convention Center to the Los Angeles Convention Center. Although, the L.A. center is a nice one, it's location in the downtown area is pretty inconvenient and less inaccessible. Plus, $15-30 for parking?... I don't think so. I took the metro train up, thanks. I didn't attend the first day of the convention, but I was told by many that it was pretty much dead. Saturday had a nice turn-out, but it was still missing the energy it had when it was in Long Beach and the first two years that I attended. I can't attest what WWLA2006 was like because I missed that since I was studying abroad. Many of the more familiar artists I got used to having in Wizard World were missing, and so were a lot of the more celebrity figures of the geek world (i.e. neither Stan Lee or Kevin Smith showed up this time. Not to say that the convention was lacking in big names! I did get to take my photo with James Kyson Lee who plays Ando in Heroes. Still, the presence of Heroes stars didn't up the energy of the convention at all. It was extremely mellow and strangely quiet for the most part. Still, I got to hang out with one of my favorite artist, David Mack (Kabuki, Daredevil), and his girlfriend, Mandy Amano (model and actress). They're always good with putting up with me-- since there were less people for me to bother this time, they had to deal with me 90% of the time! I got to meet people like Stuart Sayger (Shiver in the Dark) and other many talented artists. I hope that this year has not turned them off from attending the convention in the future. I definetely plan on attending again, and hope that it improves next time. I do believe they should move it back to Long Beach, though! To see more photos, visit the gallery. Can you smell the newness? CAN YOU? I swear, we really are trying to revive this website. There's so much to report on, so much to talk about! Yes, we did attend the wonderful and geek-morous San Diego International Comic Con. We had fun, of course. As usual, I spent my time in the dealer's room and hitting up my favorite comic book artists such as David Mack. Nancy was actually productive and went to a couple of panels. But hey, I went to see the Neil Gaiman panel and saw clips of the upcoming movie, Stardust, based on the brilliant man's novel, of course. I also saw Frank Welker and drooled over the 300 trailer... which, by the way, is coming out in theater soon. Oh yeah, who's with me? FOR SPARTAAAAAAA!!! I'm still trying to get our act together around this website and I promise links and such will be up and working soon. Please keep coming back.... if anyone actually visits this website, that is. A B O U T - U S
We are self-proclaimed girl-GEEKS who needed a place to write about it! We don't really do anything special with our lives, but we do enjoy the occasional comic book or fantasy film. Also, the occasional pie. With ice cream. Yeah. Ice cream.
