Saying hi to David Mack is a tradition at comic book convention!

(Okay, so I missed him last year at the con, but I got caught up with working for a friend... haha)









As per usual, he was awesome and gave Giselle a bunch of free stuff. Thanks again, David, for always welcoming me to come and bother you!

Yesterday, a friend and I went to the West Hollywood Book Fair-- which I found out about mostly because David Mack was there for a panel. The fair was a little disappointing. The variety of books for sale was lacking-- at least, I didn't see anything besides New Age and sex books. Which are fine... but not what I wanted to shop for, really! We ended up hanging out at the comic books and sci-fi pavilion; and wasting money on some crappy crepes some guys were cooking at a food booth. Bad food is always so disappointing....

We mostly littered about the Golden Apple and Tokyopop booth. Pawing at comic books and bothering people... the usual!




The first thing we did was Mack's panel which we were a little late on. Here are some photos and a video clip from the panel.








And just because she's a doll, here's my friend Anna. I don't know what she was laughing at... I think it was me she was laughing at. Yeah. That makes sense.

San Diego Comic-Con 2007, much like it's previous years, was huge with too many people nerding all over the place.

This year, I was a half a regular attendee, and then I had one foot in the "professional" side of things. I was with my good friend, Christy Lijewski (creator of Next Exit and RE:Play), for the most part, accompanying her to her panels, signings, and talking to different comic book publishers. Needless to say, it was very interesting for me!

Unfortunately, despite attending the convention for all four days, I managed to miss most of the people I had wanted to see. I definetely made it a point to say hello to David Mack and Stuart Sayger. I also found Aimee Major and she drew adorable cats for me. I also picked up Mack's The Shy Creatures book, which is all together delightful to own.

I kept my eye out for people I knew from the Bendis Board but never found any of them. I don't know too many of them, really, and many of them do not know me for I fail to be active on the forums anymore. It's been years since I saw Pat Loika or Taki Soma though and I do miss them.

I didn't really get to attend a lot of panels. I attempted to get into the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" panel, but failed miserably as the room filled up quickly. I hate standing in line... and I stood in line for that one, too! My friends and I got into the Futurama panel, which was a lot of fun as a lot of the voice actors were present for it. Futurama fans can look forward to new movies coming soon.

I missed the Live Art party on Friday, but I did get to attend another great party on Saturday night-- though the details of that party should be kept a secret among us. Yes. It was that awesome. Sorry... no dirty stories about myself here! Only about other people.

Overall, the convention wasn't too bad. Even though Saturday sold out, the crowd wasn't as bad I expected. The convention did an amazing job controlling the crowd and I am very appreciative of it. It was exhausting having to be there for all four days and I wished I had done more and seen more people-- but that's always seem to be the general feeling that Comic-con always leave me with.

One of my favorite convention is Wizard World Los Angeles, and I've had much fantastic memories of the convention from all the years I attended. This year was full of good memories and fun, but I must admit, it wasn't the best Wizard World I attended. The convention moved from the Long Beach Convention Center to the Los Angeles Convention Center. Although, the L.A. center is a nice one, it's location in the downtown area is pretty inconvenient and less inaccessible. Plus, $15-30 for parking?... I don't think so. I took the metro train up, thanks.

I didn't attend the first day of the convention, but I was told by many that it was pretty much dead. Saturday had a nice turn-out, but it was still missing the energy it had when it was in Long Beach and the first two years that I attended. I can't attest what WWLA2006 was like because I missed that since I was studying abroad.

Many of the more familiar artists I got used to having in Wizard World were missing, and so were a lot of the more celebrity figures of the geek world (i.e. neither Stan Lee or Kevin Smith showed up this time. Not to say that the convention was lacking in big names! I did get to take my photo with James Kyson Lee who plays Ando in Heroes. Still, the presence of Heroes stars didn't up the energy of the convention at all. It was extremely mellow and strangely quiet for the most part.

Still, I got to hang out with one of my favorite artist, David Mack (Kabuki, Daredevil), and his girlfriend, Mandy Amano (model and actress). They're always good with putting up with me-- since there were less people for me to bother this time, they had to deal with me 90% of the time! I got to meet people like Stuart Sayger (Shiver in the Dark) and other many talented artists. I hope that this year has not turned them off from attending the convention in the future. I definetely plan on attending again, and hope that it improves next time. I do believe they should move it back to Long Beach, though!
