The Geekie Awards 2013

the Geekie Awards 2013

Last night, the 1st annual Geekie Awards took place at The Avalon in Hollywood and the show was hosted by the lovely, Alison Haislip. Stan Lee was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by Seth Green on stage and was completely delightful as per usual, singing an ode to geek he wrote himself to the tune of Yankee Doodle. The show was a lot of fun, smart and full of surprises.

Free Comic Book Day 2013

free comic book day 2013

Once again, Defective Geeks joined The Comic Bug for another round of Free Comic Book Day last Saturday. We arrived before the event opened that morning and I was amazed at the long line that was already waiting outside of the store! All kinds of free books waited inside the Bug, from children’s comics to horror to your classic Batman or Avengers. I just wanted to grab everything and run. There was also quite a number of great artists who were offering free sketches to anyone who had lined up to get their free books. There were also balloon animals and face painting for the kids — or adults!

Check out all our photos from the event after the jump.

Frank and Son’s Cosplay Con 2013

Frank and Son's Cosplay Con 2013

Comic Book Live was awesome enough to invite us to Frank and Son’s Cosplay Con 2013 and share a booth with them. I didn’t have much to offer, except for a few fliers but it was cool to participate at the event anyways. There were so many people, most of them were in line for Stan Lee’s autograph but tons of cosplayers also showed up. We were there for most of the morning and got to take quite a few photos. Check them out!

Tons of photos below the jump.

Anime Expo 2012: Brands Boutique and Cosplay Overload

Zoe from Brands Boutique invited me to come back to Anime Expo this year and I gladly made the trek to the Los Angeles Convention Center. I missed AX last year and it felt like I haven’t been to the convention in a really long time.

Anime Expo 2012

Yes, I was overwhelmed and somewhat confused. I’m not familiar with a lot of the new anime series that people are cosplaying these days. I mostly recognize Evangelion or Legend of Korra cosplayers. I felt sad for my old-lady-self. I did enjoy taking photos and this video with Fortune Cookie!

The Exhibit Hall has gotten a lot better since I last remembered too. There were so many indie artists, not just at the artist alley but at bigger booths selling a lot of self-produced merchandise. Most of it were high quality goods and I was very much tempted to purchase a lot of cute things.
