Awesome (Awful) Sequels I’m Looking Forward To

As the title of our last podcast suggest and as I am sure most of you have noticed already — it is the Age of Sequels. Or reboots. Or re-hashing of movies from 20 years ago that Hollywood thinks they can make new cash with. Whatever you want to call it, it’s happening right now. The sad truth is that I am one of the enablers and that I am truly excited for these movies. I might be failing my peers in the creative community as a whole.

Independence Day 2

Independence Day is one of my favorite movies. I will fight with anyone’s beloved grandmother to the end that it is one of the most re-watchable films from the 90s. Next year in 2016, the movie will be 20 years old and I have a feeling this sequel is aiming to release in conjunction with that anniversary.

X-Files Reunion: Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny Raise Money For Charity

When IBG Inc. announced that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny (with special guest, Chris Carter) were having a “reunion” in order to raise money for charity, I was besides myself with excitement. The X-Files was my childhood sci-fi/geek love and I still consider it my most favorite television series of all time. Unfortunately, I was too young to venture off to the conventions during the mid-90s and thus, missed out on all the fandom fun. There was no question that I would attend this event and the fact that all the money went to charity just made it better.

Official photo from IBG Inc.

IBG Inc. is a non-profit campaign that raises money for various charities through the arts. This particular conversation series held on July 30, 2011, with the X-Files stars benefited SA-YES and raised over $30,000+!

We were allowed to take non-flash photos during the panel but the room was so ridiculously dimly lighted that there was no way to take proper photos. I did end up just taking notes while Anderson, Duchovny and Carter were on stage. Here are some of the highlights from their conversations.

Why won’t you love me?

This post has been triggered by Neil Gaiman’s recent blog entry, in which he used the subject title: “I’m Sweet and I’m Cuddly, I’m Gonna Kill Scully!” I promptly twitted about this and wondered if anyone could guess the origin of those lyrics. I felt like such a nerd when I received no twit back with an answer of “OH I KNOW!”

(Well, at least I know Mr. Gaiman knows what I am talking about. Mental high five, wherever you are in the world right now, Neil!)

Complete blast from the past, people, I listened to those words over and over again when I was a wee teenager enamored with The X-Files and David Duchovny!

THE ANSWER IS: Bree Sharp’s song– simply titled: David Duchovny.

Behold.

And the quality of this next video isn’t very good, but it was made by the X-Files’ crew for David’s birthday. It is worth watching– it’s HILARIOUS.

And now, I hope you are all educated on how incredibly awesome and nerdy (and really sad) I am. I can still sing this song word for word if asked (and if I’m willing, that is).
