Knott’s Scary Farm 2015 Announcement (Pictures + Video)

Ever since I can remember I have loved Halloween. Everything about it from the dressing up, the horror movie marathons on television, and everything magically becoming pumpkin flavored has been truly special to me.

When I was eleven I found out about Knott’s Scary Farm. I almost couldn’t believe it, one of my favorite theme parks at night transformed into a huge haunted house? A place where scenes from scary movies and stories that I loved became real life and I could experience them? I begged my mother to take me to this magical place! Well, little eleven year old Giselle got her wish. I’ll never forget how much fun I had and new love for my favorite time of year was born. Also, major props to my mom for staying up until 2am so her weird kid could pretend she was in a scary movie.

Knott's Scary Farm 2015 AnnouncementNeedless to say when so many years later I got the chance to cover the official announcement for this year’s Knott’s Scary Farm I was freaking delighted as hell. Here, kids, is my report on what we all can look forward to at this year’s Haunt. May I say it looks pretty damn spectacular. Continue reading

Halloween! Knott’s Scary Farm 2013

Knott's Scary Farm 2013

Knott’s Scary Farm Haunt prides itself as one of the first — if not THE first — theme parks to go all out during Halloween in Southern California. They have been around for more than a decade since I remembered my own mother taking me to the park on a Halloween (possibly one of their first years as Knott’s Scary) when I was barely a tween and getting scared to death! When Scarlettburn and I went this year, I had wondered out loud why a parent would agree to take an impressionable child to the park. It wasn’t until I was laughing hysterically at the reactions of a group of kids chaperoned by their own parents inside one of the mazes that I understood why. It’s kind of funny to see terrified children and it’s possibly a nice little revenge for making our parents’ lives a constant hell. . . but everyone has their fun in the end, so why not!

Fives Things Elvira Taught Me

One of the many things I remember fondly from when I was a kid was watching Elvira with my uncle. I’ve always had a penchant for Halloween and anything affiliated with it, so Elvira and her show were like a dream come true for me. When I was eleven years old my uncle took me to Knott’s Scary Farm just so that we could see her live show there. After waiting in line we lucked out and got to sit front row center. The whole time before the show began we were so excited and once she finally appeared and I remember thinking, “Whoa, she’s real.”

To this day we still talk about how much fun we had at that show, and yes my uncle is the coolest guy ever for taking eleven year old Giselle to Knott’s Scary Farm to see Elvira. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be like her. She is gorgeous, hilarious, and has wit to match it. As I’ve gotten older I realize that not only is Elvira generally awesome, but she has taught me some valuable lessons over the years.

Here are the five things that Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, has taught me:

1). If You’ve Got it, Flaunt it

Elvira is not ashamed of her body. She has legs, hair, and a rack to die for and she’ll be damned if you don’t know it. She is proud of her figure and not shy about what nature (or perhaps Satan) has blessed upon her. Ladies, we need to follow suit. Let’s stop being so self-deprecating and ashamed of our figures and instead show the world our incredible assets and be proud of them. Screw shame and let the world know that you are beautiful and that you don’t feel the need to hide it. Embrace yourself!

An Ode to Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo and an 80s Dance Party

San Diego Comic-con is coming up and most of us are either excited or stressed out about it… or perhaps both. Of course, Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo is throwing an epic party: TOTALLY GEEKTASTIC COMIC-CON DANCE PARTY! on Thursday night, July 12 at the Spin Nightclub in San Diego.

Although we are looking forward to the Comic-con shenanigans this year, I thought I should blog about why you should start getting excited for Comikaze Expo 2012 now! Besides the fact that their 80s dance party is going to rock so hard. I bet you never imagined you’d go to an 80s themed party with Stan Lee.

Yes, Comikaze Expo on the same caliber of SDCC’s pop-culture insanity but it offers plenty of guests and attractions carefully picked to cater to the nerds. Comikaze Expo did so well on its first year in 2011 that it had exploded into the community loudly and proudly. I think that you would find that it truly cares about the fans and they’re working hard to improve the quality of the experience for the fans only. Not for Hollywood.
