It’s that time of year, kids. Time to bring out that fabulous flammable artificial tree, fragile ornaments, and tacky sweaters because it’s the Defective Geeks Christmas Movie Extravaganza!
The first movie in this series is one of my favorite comedies, Trading Places.
Trading Places, directed by John Landis, is about two people from opposite sides of the proverbial train tracks whose places have been switched against their will. Louis Winthorpe, played by Dan Akroyd, comes from privilege and works for a very prestigious investment company. He’s also a huge snob. Billy Ray Valentine, played by Eddie Murphy, is begging for money on the streets and constantly causing trouble. Purely for the sake of entertainment, two wealthy brothers (played by Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy) ruin Winthorpe and have Valentine take his place, just to see what will happen. Once the two men realize their lives are turned upside down purely for the brother’s entertainment, they seek sweet revenge on the wealthy brothers. What ensues is utter hilarity. Continue reading
