INTERVIEW: Eric Hicks, Star of LOVE IN HARMONY VALLEY, Talks About His Journey As An Actor and Spiritual Practitioner

Eric, a Saskatchewan native, moved to Toronto to pursue his dream to become an actor– and you might have seen him in popular shows such as The Strain, Reign and Schitt’s Creek. His new movie, Love in Harmony Valley, premiered on the Superchannel this Fall. Learn more about his journey and projects below!

Hi Eric, thank you so much for answering our questions today! Tell us about yourself and what influenced you to pursue acting. When did you want to know you wanted to become an actor and what was that journey like for you to get you to where you are today?

You know what, there was this one moment as a kid that I decisively remember saying to myself, “I want to do that when I’m older.” I was featured background on a Jamie Foxx movie when I was around nine years old I think, and it was the one day we finished getting these baseball game scenes shot and as I was walking across the dirt roads to go back to holding, Jamie and his team were shooting a basic car stunt. The car is ripping away in the gravel and Jamie was hanging out of the window, and I guess maybe what I really wanted to do was stunts, haha, but yeah, I just loved that whole experience so much and knew it was something I really wanted to do one day. But it really wasn’t until I was 21 [years old] that I truly entertained the idea of the arts as a career choice.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles but with Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock. I must admit, I had negative views of this film going in. I HATE “Leave them at the altar chick flicks”.

This film pleasantly surprised me. There are spoilers, as the ending must be discussed to redeem this film.

‘Warm Bodies’ and Why I Already Love This Movie

Warm Bodies

“They would literally eat anything with a heart beat. I mean, I will to, but at least I’m conflicted about it.”

When the concept for Warm Bodies was first brought to my attention, my immediate reaction was: “I am going to watch this movie because it’s going to be about zombies and it’s going to be terrible but amazing.” The premise is that a young zombie falls in love with a living human girl. Last night, I finally saw a trailer for this movie. My opinion has changed dramatically. This movie is going to be amazing for real. It gave me happy, squishy feelings inside and here is a list of why people who dig zombie flicks (or even people who don’t!) should give this movie a chance.

‘Lovers in a Dangerous Time’ – What Makes a Love Story Canadian?

Love stories are supposedly universal. We can all relate to the feeling of loving another person, being loved and then the heart breaks. We can all also relate to the nostalgia of childhood and wishing as adults that we can go back to that carefree era of our lives.

Lovers in a Dangerous Time is an independent film written and produced by Mark Hug and May Charters that touched on these emotions through the lives of two childhood friends, Todd Timmins (Mark Hug) and Allie Adamson (May Charter). Yes, there is hockey and apple orchards in small Canadian towns. Yes, this is a Canadian love story but it’s a story we can all relate to.
