SAN DIEGO COMIC CON

Nerd HQ 2012, Dance Party

SDCC 2012

On Saturday night of San Diego Comic-con, Sailor Mizz, Gizzy B and Chubby Bunny and I all got to hang out and party for the last night of the convention. We ended up at Nerd HQ which was at a bigger venue this year with a giant bar, a stage and a dance floor all over the place! The dancing was important. Whenever Sailor Mizz and I drink, we always end up declaring: “We need to DANCE!”

Last year, I went to a couple of Nerd HQ’s special panels but I didn’t get a chance to this year… all the panels sold out so fast this time around. Sigh… the Doctor Who panel would have been amazing. I guess an awesome thing can’t be a “secret” forever. I’m happy that the event has gotten as much attention as they are getting now on just their second year. All the profit goes to charity because the founder, actor Zachary Levi, is surely that cool of a guy.

ADVENTURES

Zachary Levi, Comic-Con and Cosplay

When @thenerdmachine Twitter account asked for cosplay volunteers for a short movie, I decided to jump on it. I haven’t officially cosplayed for a long, long time but I was feeling quite adventurous. I’m not the type to throw myself in front of a camera on a regular basis (mah ugly mug!)  but I had a great time when I was on set for The Guild last year. It was a great experience and a chance to meet like-minded people.

On set with Zachary Levi!

As you can see, it was totally worth it to drive an hour to set on a Saturday morning and wearing a costume in super hot weather — just to get my photo with Zachary Levi (Chuck)! For those who didn’t know, The Nerd Machine is Levi’s company and of course, he was the leading man in the film they were shooting that weekend.

Ep. 62 Not-So-Humble-Bragging

The Space Pirate Queen and Gizzy B are currently leading fabulous lives and couldn’t help but not-so-humble brag about all the cool shit they’ve been doing. Hear their adventures on working for free for Hollywood and creepin’ on their favorite actors. It’s all good guys. They’re mostly kidding. Mostly.

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON

Nerd HQ, Year One

A few weeks before San Diego Comic Con, I started to notice more and more people using the hashtag ‘#NerdHQ’— a mystery event. After investigating, I traced it back to The Nerd Machine, a site founded by Chuck’s Zachary Levi. Naturally, I was giddily curious. A NERD headquarter?! I was picturing a giant tree house for nerds. With geek tech blinking and making noises inside, comic books, toys and all that cool shit.

Turned out, Levi’s vision was almost as good as mine and within less than a month he organized an off-shoot Comic Con event. The headquarters established itself and set up its shop a block away from the convention at Jolt n’ Joe bar and restaurant.

Nerd HQ 2011

I fail at looking sultry. Gizzy, on the other hand, is an expert.

You do not need to have a Comic Con badge to enter Nerd HQ but they did sell tickets to the individual “Conversations” events throughout the weekend. The money went to charity, Operation Smile, and the event raised $40k (SDCCblog.org). Pretty amazing but not surprising! Each “Conversation” panel that Nerd HQ offered was only $20 a pop but you spend an hour with the guests and then most of them had a free autograph session afterwards. Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin were among some of the stars that participated in these panels.

Who did Gizzy and I went to see?
