Japanology : BOSOZOKU

I never got around to posting about this event— better late than never, I guess! Royal-T Cafe, Bubblepunch and Zippercut host a monthly(ish) event called ‘Japanology’. Each month, they pick a topic of focus about one of Japan’s many, and most of the time deviant, subcultures. In September, I attended a movie screening and lecture about Bosozoku, aka biker gangs in Japan!

There was a small photo booth set up with a vintage motorcycle as prop for the models. It was fun hanging out and pretending to be a ‘yanki‘ for the night.

I admit, I use to daydream about joining a Japanese girl biker gang! This was as close as I could get, I guess…

Not only was Crusaders & Haters full of superhero fun– but myself and fellow blogger, Nancy (aka Mjade) has been reunited after two years! Whew! It’s been awhile! But she is currently visiting from England up until Comic-Con in San Diego next weekend.

These type of nerdy parties are more of my scene than hers, so we all appreciate her making the effort to attend! GO NANCY!

This is by far one of the more crowded Royal-T event that I’ve attended. The art show was curated by Danie Franzese, and the costume opening party was organized by the lovely Mandy of ZIPPERCUT. Good music, good crowd, and a great photographer (Drew Yoon) was present to take pictures at the photo booth.

Of course, the usual crowd of ladies– and some gentlemen!– who loves to dress up attended sporting some great costumes!

Who said nerds couldn’t have a classy and fun party?

Coming Up: CRUSADERS & HATERS

For more information, please visit ZIPPERCUT.com!

A super hero themed art show! Opening night is this Friday night, at Royal-T in Culver City, CA!

I’m trying to put together a last minute superhero inspired outfit. I might need to make a cape… I know loads of other people will be putting together really elaborate and wonderful costumes, so don’t miss out!

Cirque du so Lame – not so lame!

I went to my first Zippercut.com hosted party at the Royal-T Cafe in Culver City. As I expected, it turned out to be a pretty fabulous event, albeit the place got a little crowded! Which is a sign of a successful party, of course. I had to miss the Bob Baker show, unfortunately, because there was no way of penetrating the crowd at the back of the restaurant by the time I arrived.

Of course, the usual creative group of ladies were present, like Michelle aka chubby bunny (she sells hand made bows which are available at Royal-T! Super cute!), who created her entire outfit from scratch.

Fiery red babe, True Mee (aka yume ninja), customized her costume– hottest lion tamer of all circus town? I think so!

Jenny, from what I’ve heard, made her entire costume in ONE day! Below is a photo of her with Julie (aka smiley squid) who is a dress making extra-ordinaire. They both looked super-gorgeous that night.

Sheyne’s monkey box was a big hit that night! She even had a bear on drums, which became my favorite that night (though sadly, I didn’t get a photo of it!)

In other words, if you want to meet and mingle with some of the most creative people in town, you can definitely find them at the next themed party at Royal-T.

Mad Tea Party

This past Saturday, Royal-T Cafe hosted a Alice in Wonderland themed event, which mostly catered to the lolita and doll collectors subcultures. My friend and I went to check it out to take loads of photos and eat some delicious food!

I love, love, loooooooove the food at this restaurant!!! I also highly recommend their great selection of tea, especially their Royal Milk Tea. The Royal-T High Tea set is a good choice for people who are eating here for the first time. It has a selection of finger food and samples of most of the desserts! Plus, your choice of tea, of course. We ordered the “Queen’s High Tea” set, which was a special for this particular event. I thought the addition of the cupcake on top was pretty fun.
