Superhero Movies: 2016 Favorites and What’s In Store for 2017!

My head is spinning, you guys.

I wanted to do a New Year wrap up of which comic book movies were my favorite in 2016, but it’s hard to even keep track of all of them. Isn’t it strange to think that not that long ago, we geeks were constantly thirsty for superhero movies? Now, we’re pretty much drowning in them. Not that I’m complaining.

San Diego Comic Con 2016: Scenes Around The Con

San Diego Comic Con—aka, Nerd Christmas in the Summer— came and went. I attended for the entire weekend this year and snapped a handful of photos of cosplayers and all the cool things around the convention. There were way more that I missed, of course. The heat was brutal this year and I am too much of a wuss to walk in extreme heat. Fortunately, there were still tons of things to see and do. Check out the photo slideshow below! You can also view the photos on our Facebook page as well.

Comic Review: The Legend of Wonder Woman #1

LOWW_CVR1We love Wonder Woman. We love watching female creators in the comic book industry have a chance to work with more and more popular titles and characters. Renae De Liz, known for her work with Womanthology and Lady Powerpunch, is currently writing and drawing a 9-issue mini-series called The Legend of Wonder Woman.

The series will focus on the Amazon princess’ childhood, before she was known as Wonder Woman.

The series begins with a brief look into Hippolyta’s past and the creation of Themyscira. There are even pages dedicated to Diana’s “birth.” The trailer indicates that the book will end with Diana as an adult and taking on the superhero mantle (watch the video below).

Geekmas Time Is Here!

Christmas season is upon us, and now more than ever there are many geek gifting options.

I’ve seeing the various geeky gifts lists pop up here and there, gifts for lady geeks, gifts for dude geeks, gifts for lazy geeks, and so on.

But lets be honest, tis the season of giving, and buying for our fellow geeky friends what we could never justify buying for ourselves. Not because we don’t love treating ourselves to well earned gifts, but because sometimes we feel a tad bit guilty buying those $20.00 geek themed cookie cutters when we should probably spend that money responsibly, like on booze or kitty litter.

I have compiled a list of 10 awesomely geeky gifts that we love, and would love to receive, though we might not necessarily buy for ourselves. However, we would have zero problems buying this for our friends or significant others (hint hint, significants!) I have also made this list completely absent of t-shirts and leggings, much as I love them, I think we can aim to be a little more creative than what we normally give our fellow geeks.

10. Virtually Vintage – 3D Geek Ornaments ($10.00/ea)

These 3D ornaments are rather gorgeous, and would be an amazing addition to any geek themed Christmas tree.

Ep. 180 Woman Have Skin All Along

Podcast2013-web-image

The Lady Geeks discuss how media headlines treat female celebrities, stupid people who doesn’t know how to eat sushi and the Black Widow standalone movie. Also, where’s our Wonder Woman movie still? The Space Pirate Queen also recommends the book, Wonder Woman Unbound. Fanfic Theatre: Lion King x Terminator, sort of?

BOOK

Tim Hanley’s ‘Wonder Woman Unbound’

wonder woman unboundWonder Woman is as iconic as Batman and Superman, often hailed as the third to complete the DC trinity. She represents women in the super hero world and today, some of us here at Defective Geeks talk consider her lack of presence in popular media (i.e. blockbuster summer movies) a very important topic of discussion. On our podcast, we’ve questioned why every time a network attempts to create a new Wonder Woman television show, it is canceled before it ever airs. We’ve questioned why it’s so hard for writers to bring her back to life in her own standalone series or movie. As we eagerly await what will happen to the character in the next Superman/Batman movie by Zack Snyder, I was sent this book called Wonder Woman Unbound: The Curious History of the World’s Most Famous Heroine by author, Tim Hanley.
