Last August, Gizle and I traveled to Vancouver, Canada and with two of our friends, we attended our first Supernatural convention. Six months later (as in, this past weekend), we went to the local con, investing more money (possibly a couple or so hundred dollars) on tickets and photos with our favorite television stars. That is what you call fandom love… aka, a little bit obsessed. At least we stuck to a pretty reasonable budget and steered clear of the expensive GOLD ($549 per person) and SILVER ($399) passes that Creation Entertainment offered con goers. We are not that hardcore. Or rich. Or crazy. However you want to look at it, I suppose.
On Saturday, day one of the convention, Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer), Richard Speight Jr. (The Trickster/Gabriel), Traci Dinwiddie (Pam), Mark Sheppard (Crowley) and Misha Collins (Castiel) were all present. Each guests were on stage for about an hour, taking questions from the attendees and then off they go to be ushered off to their photo ops and autograph sessions.
It’s going to take me awhile to upload all the photos and videos, so here is the first batch!
Around 10am, Jim Beaver was the first guest on stage. I don’t know why I can’t really remember much of what he talked about… possibly because I was kind of way too excited to be there at that point. It was the first time I saw Jim on stage by himself and he was quite lovely. He likes to make fun of Jensen and Jared a lot, but he does so in a very loving way. Despite Jim’s status as a veteran and more experienced actor, he seems to have profound and equal respect with his co-stars. Although he does seem to find them a little bit too silly some times.
Richard and Traci’s panel together were one of the more enjoyable one for me. Traci opened up with her drum circle, dancing on stage and showing off her amazing arms! She introduced her drum group and explained that it was her hobby while she wasn’t acting. Gizle and I had a seat near the back and we did not realize that Richard had been standing behind us the whole time! We only found out when he started speaking on the microphone and made his way up to join Traci on stage.
Luckily for all the fans that day, Richard decided to deviate from the usual construct of Q&A and he and Traci hit the floor with the mics. Instead of having fans get up to speak to the microphones set up on each side of the stage, they walked to people and personally held the microphone for fans to ask their questions. It was so much fun and it was nice for all of us to get up close and personal with them. Some audience members even took the rare opportunity to get FREE pictures with them while they were nearby. Richard and Traci had great chemistry, bouncing jokes and funny quips at each other.
Here is a quick video from the panel:
Afterwards, they had the costume contest which I thought was kind of adorable. There were a bunch of people dressed up as Pamela and Anna that day too. Even a fairy! FIGHT THE FAIRIES, SAM! The grand prize winners were my favorite couple… young Mary and John Winchester! They were super cute.
