SDCC2015 Party Recap: TO THE NERDS, GO THE SPOILS
For us, SDCC is always synonymous with the best nerd parties of the year, but my god. AT WHAT PRICE, MY SOUL?
At long last, it’s time for the Party Tiger to lay down her furry mantle and write about the best parties at SDCC. They were good, they were great, they were full of awesome music, and nerdy pride. Thanks to all the amazing friends who stuck with us along the way, and the new ones we made!
(Apologies for the rough audio in the beginning… hang in there for the party vids after it!)
AKA FRODO DROPPED DA BEAT
You know that nice, free feeling, when you go into a party expecting basically nothing (because there’s no info anywhere on the interwebs about it!) and then enter the doors, encounter a giant ice sculpture (that you immediately try to lick and get yelled at for), fun drinks, and a beautiful space…. and then… AND THEN… YOU LOCK EYES WITH ELIJAH WOOD, who is throwing down some serious nerd beats on vinyl?? YOU KNOW THAT FEEL, MAN? Well, we sure do! Although Mashable was supposed to be hosting the “Mashable House” all weekend at SDCC, they last minute turned it into a one-night party, and we applaud their efforts. With a cute manicure station, a temp tattoo station, animated gif photobooth, and THE DUDE WHO HAD THE ONE RING, we had such a blast at this amazing event. Thanks for the invite, Mashable!
Geek & Sundry’s “Pop Up Party”
AKA THE ONE MASHUP TO RULE THEM ALL
(Sorry, I just really like LoTR references, okay??)
We were only able to be at this one for a second, but my god, that DJ!!! I had actually been trying to track him down since last year, due to his amazing skills at mashing up nerd theme songs with 90’s beats. Walking into a room serenaded by a mashup of Final Fantasy’s “Sephiroth” theme song mixed with hip hop beats, I almost started crying then and there. Honorable mention to this fun “secret” event who has the best music and dance floor at SDCC every year. THANK YOU, BABY JESUS, AND FELICIA DAY!
AKA “WELL, WE HAD THE SPACE, SOOOO…”
So last year, IGN hosted the Sin City 2 party. This year, it seems that they had no properties to promote, but booked up the stylish FLOAT bar and pool space at the Hard Rock nonetheless. Without a theme it wasn’t as fun as it could have been, but we shall never turn up our noses at free food and drinks!
Costume Designer’s Guild Mixer
AKA BEAUTIFUL, KIND, TALENTED FOLK
Not so much of a “BOOM BOOM” party as a “How lovely to see you, darling!” mixer, we enjoy this soiree so much for the talented people we encounter in the 3 hours (we always stay almost the whole time, haha) of this relaxed and fun event. Every year the CDG hosts this lovely cocktail hour to celebrate costume designers, stylists, and other talent who are often the unsung heroes in making our geek idols look good. Special thanks to Jennifer from CDG for being such a sweetheart (and having lovely lady locksss)!
DRAGONBALL Z PARTY
AKA PARTY LEVEL ALWAYS OVER 9000
We posted about this before, but hey, not we have some video to add to it! Check out our last post for the 9000 reasons that DragonballZ, Funimation, and the otaku crowd always have the most fun at SDCC! OTHER PARTIES: TAKE NOTE of these awesome decor and themed activities!
What were the most superpowered parties you attended at SDCC? Let us know in the comments!
This is IAMCHUBBYBUNNY, signing out… IN THE NAME OF THE MOOOOON!
