Disneyland, Star War’s Galaxy’s Edge and Rise of the Resistance

I finally caved into peer pressure and allowed my friends to convince me to buy an Annual Pass to Disneyland. It has been years and years since my last visit at the park and I was very excited to see Star War’s Galaxy’s Edge (or as we fondly keep calling it: Star Wars Land).

My first visit did not disappoint and I was in absolute awe of everything. It truly felt like entering a different world. The life size Millennium Falcon was every bit as amazing as everyone’s Instagram photos had suggested. The ride, Smuggler’s Run, is so much fun– though I am traumatized from taking on the pilot role forever. I’ll be an engineer for life, thanks…

Spider-Gwen, Spider-Gwen, Fashionable Neighborhood Spider-Gwen!

Spider-Gwen fans, your prayers have been answered!

WeLoveFine debuts today with their new line of Spider-Gwen inspired apparel, ranging from hoodies, tanks, and leggings! Hallelujah, lady nerds!

For those not in the know, Spider-Gwen is one of the most innovative characters to come out of the Spider-Verse arc, coming from an alternate reality where Gwen Stacy is the one who gets bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. Jason Latour & Robbi Rodriguez created her iconic costume, which is just one of the many reasons fans have fallen in love with Spider-Gwen.

I (ChubbyBunny Michelle!) was so pleased to be able to be one of the Spider-Gwens for this shoot, and had a blast jumping all over town to create that web slinger feel for the pics!

So hold on to your spider-pants, ladies, here comes some fashion suitable for any aspiring superhero!

Fangirl Travel: Nocking Point’s P-Town Wine Mixer 2015

DSC_6655-X2

“Will Travel to Fangirl”

In 2015, this has become my new mantra. When I found out that Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen in Arrow, has a winery AND throws wine parties… I was more than a little excited. In a spur of the moment between flurries of text messages, Gizzy B and I decided that we were going to attend the Nocking Point wine mixer in Portland. It was a good excuse to travel, right? I’ve never been to Portland!

Costume Designers Guild at SDCC 2014

Yes folks, the San Diego Comic Con posts are still forthcoming!

We just HAD to write about one of the best afternoon events we were privileged to attend at SDCC: The CDG (Costume Designers Guild) Mixer! On Friday, July 25th, the CDG local 892 rolled out the red carpet to their members and panelists to celebrate all things costuming at the Marriot Marquis.  The Costume Designers Guild (I.A.T.S.E. Local 892) is the labor union representing costume designers, assistant costume designers and illustrators in film and television.

For those not in the know, this year marked the CDG’s ninth consecutive year participating at SDCC, by offering a slew of panels on costuming and the industry, as well as sponsoring their very own Masquerade prizes and trophy!. This year’s winners were “Giant Monsters All Out Attack,” by Lisa Truong, Lynleigh Sato, Wendy Colon, and Cindy Purchase.

The CDG mixer venue was gorgeous, with our own view of the bay and plenty of food to nosh on!

Another wonderful part of this mixer was the copious amounts of costumes on display on models from various movies! We tried very hard not to feel every costume and freak out their wearers, haha. Alright, enough chit chat. On to the photos!

BECOME THE PARTY WOLF: SDCC2014 List of Where to Get Crunk Like a Nerd Rock Star

There are three types of San Diego Comic Con attendees:

1. Pokemon Masters:  “I GOTTA CATCH ALL OF THE RARE POKEYMANS/LIMITED GOODS/ COLLECTIBLE ITEMS!!” You’ll see these fine folk lined up in the convention hall awaiting their preciousssss. They probably don’t talk in ALL CAPS but.. they’re THINKING IN ALL CAPS.

2. Die Hards (aka Bruce Willys): “I must attend all pertinent panels, meetings signings, and appearances of the show/series/comic/subculture that I am into. Otherwise, I CANNOT CALL MYSELF A TRUE FAN.”

3. Party Wolves: “Where. Da. Party. At.” Yeah, we sort of care about the other stuff, but mostly we wanna party with our nerdy selves.

Although we here at Defective Geeks are an equal mix of all of these types of nerdy personas, this post will focus on the most obscure of the three… LOS PARTY LOBOS EXTREMOS.

Comic Con is all about fandoms, but it’s also about getting to party with your best nerd pals, and hopefully scoring some free refreshment all while rubbing elbows with celebrities from the series/title/films/books you love. While the list below certainly isn’t comprehensive, it’s definitely refined down to the ones you can actually expect to get into with a wee bit of effort! Remember to pace yourselves, party animals. Thursday has the most parties, and Saturday the least, which means the chances of you maxing out and tossing cookies before the week really gets started are high! BEWARE THE PARTY FOUL. Party responsibly, and bring water with you EVERYWHERE.

And if you wanna know where WE are during the con, we will be all over social media shenanigans, party info, and embarrassing photos:

Childhood Dreams with Adult Sophistication, the 2014 MYTH Masquerade Ball

As children we love to delve into the world of fantasy. We make believe to explore impossible worlds and meet incredible creatures of myth. Many of us as we have gotten older still hold onto these fantastical dreams and miss when we could “make believe.”

Lucky for those of us who still have this longing, there is an event when we can embrace that part of ourselves and explore the world of myth. That event is the 2014 MYTH Masquerade Ball.

Myth Masquerade

On May 24th, 2014 at the beautiful Los Angeles Theatre you can participate in this exquisite world of myth! Come as your favorite mythical creature and experience the joy of childlike wonderment with the freedom of an adult. This is truly the best of both worlds.

EightyTwo in Little Tokyo

March Madness Birthdays - 82

Old school arcades are a rare find these days (Dave and Busters does not count) which is why it was a big deal in the Southern California geek world when EightyTwo announced that they were opening a barcade. On their opening weekend, I was invited to a birthday party of a friend’s friend. Normally, I would hide in my cave to avoid social anxiety but this time, I happily accepted the invite so I could waste many quarters!
