Geekmas Time Is Here!

Christmas season is upon us, and now more than ever there are many geek gifting options.

I’ve seeing the various geeky gifts lists pop up here and there, gifts for lady geeks, gifts for dude geeks, gifts for lazy geeks, and so on.

But lets be honest, tis the season of giving, and buying for our fellow geeky friends what we could never justify buying for ourselves. Not because we don’t love treating ourselves to well earned gifts, but because sometimes we feel a tad bit guilty buying those $20.00 geek themed cookie cutters when we should probably spend that money responsibly, like on booze or kitty litter.

I have compiled a list of 10 awesomely geeky gifts that we love, and would love to receive, though we might not necessarily buy for ourselves. However, we would have zero problems buying this for our friends or significant others (hint hint, significants!) I have also made this list completely absent of t-shirts and leggings, much as I love them, I think we can aim to be a little more creative than what we normally give our fellow geeks.

These 3D ornaments are rather gorgeous, and would be an amazing addition to any geek themed Christmas tree.

Fanart Glee: Pacific Rim, Jaeger Party

pacific-rim-griveart

Gorgeous painting by GriveArt.

No one was flailing as much as I was in the theater while watching Pacific Rim. No one. That said, when pondering what my next round of Fanart Glee post should be about, I realized — duh, I bet there’s some amazing Pacific Rim fanart on Tumblr these days! Check out the ones I collected after the jump.

Robot Chicken Meets DC Comics

What do Robot Chicken and DC Comics have in common?
An art show, a fan base, and doing some good.

With their powers combined, they have also hosted three (3!) spectacles over at iam8Bit gallery in Echo Park, California.

On March 28th, they hosted their one-night-only charity art show and to celebrate the April 6, 2014 premiere of their Robot Chicken Comics Special 2: Villains in Paradise.

Fanart Glee: Loki, Brother and Trickster

Art by Sulamoon.

I tried very hard to resist the “Loki bandwagon” — I guess it’s more like the Tom Hiddleston bandwagon. Let’s face it, the character only became Tumblr-popular based on his portrayal of the character.

I wasn’t strong enough to resist the Hiddlecharm. Especially with that sly and mischievous smile. All that green.

Fanart Glee: Tauriel and Kili

Hobbit Denial Pyramid by skart2005 on deviantART

Now, I know this is a controversial topic and most of all, a very controversial pairing (though most people seem to accept the Gimli and Legolas shipping a lot more) but I loved Tauriel in The Hobbit and I loved that Kili had a huge crush on her.

Also read, New OTP: Tauriel and Kili by Gizzy B.

Let’s face it. As much as we love the original book, The Hobbit was a bro show. Which is fine for the book and nothing will ever change or re-write that classic piece of literature but in my growing adult years, I find that accepting the fluidity of media makes my life that much easier.

Nerd Quilt

Nerd Quilt photo 1269498_10151866863407110_623889466_o.jpg

I finally completed one of the longest standing projects in my WIP sewing closet. It’s a messy closet full of ‘That seems like a great idea! I will totally do that’ projects.

This one is rather near and dear to my heart because it’s full of memories! I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of nerdy t-shirts that I love. Funny sayings, cool logos, awesome art work, TONS of them. I am loathe to get rid of them once they are past the point of wearing in polite company (yes, I have some standards. They are not high, but they are there). But what to do with them?

ART SHOW: Xanadu Rocketship

The art of XANADU ROCKETSHIP

Xanadu Rocketship (Jess Keys) had her first, solo art show at Low Light in San Diego which showcased a collection of her bright and illustrative paintings. I dig her style, combining sexy, kawaii and pinup inspired by animation art. Despite the pastel color palette, her female characters has a certain femme fetale sensibility to it–  they’re playful while also empowering. Minus all the Fine Arts mumbo jumbo, all I have to say is that Xanadu’s art is pretty f’in awesome and I am so happy for her!
