The One Spring Anime I Didn’t Recommend [but should have]

So a few months ago, I posted about how there wasn’t a whole lot of anime that I was excited to watch for the Spring season. I recommended two, and moved along.

I’m here to tell you, as spring anime season comes to an end, that I have led you astray, my friends.

When I was looking through the list of anime back then, I saw an anime called Seraph of the End, and was interested in the art style, but then read the synopsis:

One day, a mysterious virus appeared on Earth which killed every infected human over the age of 13. At the same time, vampires emerged from the world’s dark recesses and enslaved mankind. Enter Hyakuya Yuuichirou, a young boy, who along with the rest of the children from his orphanage, are treated as livestock by the vampires. Even in captivity, Yuuichirou dreams big. He dreams of killing vampires. He dreams of killing them all.

So you see, I read this and I thought. Eh. Kids? I don’t like kids. Vampires are okay but with kids? Pfff. Post-apocalyptic? Ehh. Over it. I guess this is part of the problem with my tendency to just pick animes based on first impressions, and not look into anything [like the manga] before making decisions.

I have learned my lesson, everyone.

Unfinished [Anime] Business

We all have our favorite anime – the ones we will perpetually always tell friends they just have to watch with a crazy look in our eyes as we grip their shoulders tight [btw you should watch FMA: Brotherhood no srsly go watch it WATCH IT NOW]. But what about the ones that don’t make the cut? What about these anime turns us away before even finishing one season? Or stopping in the middle of one?

I’m generally not a very picky person when it comes to being entertained, but there have been some anime in my life that I have stopped watching, and I decided to go through and figure out what it was about some of these that got me to stop.

Please note that I am not saying these anime are bad. I’m simply stating what I, personally, didn’t enjoy about them. thx <3

The Last Naruto Movie Gives Closure To A 16 Year Romance

via Naruto-Movie.com

via Naruto-Movie.com

Before the ending of the Naruto manga last November, teasers and announcements were already popping up across the internet, hinting what ‘The Last’ movie would involve. As the final weekly chapters of Naruto crept up, it was announced that ‘The Last: Naruto the Movie’ would focus almost entirely on the time period between the two final chapters, 699 and 700. The chapters focusing on the relationship between Naruto and Hinata.

The movie opened in December 2014 for Japanese audiences, and is the highest grossing Naruto movie to date. As long time Naruto fans, we could not miss the Los Angeles screenings of ‘The Last’ in February. Thankfully, the awesome team at Funimation hooked us up with some tickets.

LOVE MAKING! Love has new magical protectors!

boeibu01

Binan Kouko Chikyuu Bouei-Bu LOVE (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE) or Boei-bu, kicked off the Winter Anime season this week on Crunchyroll, meeting a lot of expectations after releasing their funny teasers last Fall. The show delightfully plays on the mahou shoujo (magical girl) trope, giving nods to iconic shows like Sailor Moon, and the long running Pretty Cure.

Sailor Moon Crystal Trailer: Dissecting our Otaku Youth.. and the Trailer

Praise be to the moon god. IT’S FINALLY HERE! Today, fans of Sailor Moon got their first look at the new anime, “Sailor Moon Crystal,” the reboot of the entire franchise, which begins airing July 5th.

5Title

Of course, when a cherished, nostalgic, and altogether life-changing anime gets redone, there’s gonna be a couple of squeaky wheels.  Let’s face it: long time fans of the franchise have TWENTY YEARS of nerd feels about Sailor Moon! We all have memories of how it shaped what we thought anime was, or how it changed our lives. Hell, my username since I was 13 has been “IAMCHUBBYBUNNY” specifically because I identified with Usagi’s clumsiness and was so in love with Sailor Moon. (Spoiler: I’m 32 now so that’s a realllllyyyy long freaking time to stick with a name as silly as that!)

Winter 2014 Anime Watch List

winter 2014

The winter anime season has already kicked off! I have gone through the lists and scoured through my wish list – I’ve shortened it some because I had way too many to watch in the fall, and actually ended up cutting some out because I had been on the fence about watching them anyways, and ended up disliking them quickly. This time I have only selected the ones that I legit am excited about. As a reminder, I am going into these shows a little blind, based on just what I see in the trailer and a wiki blurb.

A Company Man and Weiss Kreuz: I Love Assassins

a company man

A Company Man is a South Korean action-thriller film about a hitman, Ji Hyeong-Do, who clocks in at a seemingly normal looking office every day wearing a typical suit and tie. The company he works for is in fact full of trained assassins pretending to file and photocopy papers at their cubicles while quietly taking on hit jobs from their rich clients. This movie was well-made and the action sequences were amazing to watch. Funny enough, the biggest feeling I got while watching this movie was nostalgia. Weird, right?
