Awesome Fanfic Monday: Buffy and Bella

Welcome to Awesome Fanfic Monday!

I love myself a good parody. I also love myself a good crossover. You can imagine how delighted I was when I found a fanfic that falls into both of the these categories. This week’s fanfic combines both my favorite and least favorite pieces of the vampire genre into one. That’s right, some blessed soul combined Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight into a fun little one shot that will make any Buffy fan smile with delight.

This week’s Awesome Fanfic Monday goes to Dear Edward, I’ve Indulged and I Regret by I Was NotA Robot of

Awesome Fanfic Monday: Spike x Willow

Welcome to another edition of Awesome Fanfic Monday! This week we are featuring a story about one of my favorite OTPs: Spike and Willow.

I ship these two. I ship these two so hard and have done so for years. It all started back when Spike kidnapped Willow so that she would make a love potion for him and Drusilla. They had such awesome chemistry and I just loved the idea of them as a couple, especially knowing how badass of a vampire Willow can be! Ever since then I had a secret wish that they would hook up, but I happily settled for their cool and quirky friendship. The story this week perfectly captures the sweet little bond between the two of them. This week’s featured story is Scout’s Honor by lau85 of

Women I Admire: Amber Benson

If you were a teenager in the 90s meant you probably watched Buffy ,The Vampire Slayer. I didn’t stick around till the very end of the show (I’m not a fan of ‘college years’, I guess) but I do remember when Willow cheated on Oz with someone else . . . and that someone else happened to be another witch named Tara,. Whoa. Talk about breaking the grounds on mainstream television with vampires!

I remembered Tara and the relationship that blossomed between her and Willow. I also remembered getting very emotionally invested when Oz found out and became very brokenhearted. It was a really sad moment and still affects me to this day. I had a fangirl crush on Oz then. Now, that fangirl crush has transferred over to Amber Benson. Sorry, Oz . . . it looks like Tara just has a way with the ladies.

If I Ran The Lifetime Channel

The Lifetime Channel, as you all may know, is an American television channel that is made specifically for women. According to their website it is “the source for women’s entertainment.” This channel has reality shows such as Supernanny, Dance Moms, Project Runway and the feel good show America’s Most Wanted. It has re-runs of sitcoms such as How I Met Your Mother (SUIT UP!), and Reba. These are all fun and well, but what truly defines and separates this channel from the celluloid crowd is its Lifetime Original Movies.

These movies, in general, are about women in peril. They get kidnapped, stalked, abused, conned, brutalized, and occasionally murdered after all of the above. Yes, at the end of the story they are often triumphant, at times posthumously, but regardless the constant theme of these movies is bad things happening to women. Don’t get me wrong, these can be fun movies. They’re great to watch when you’re with your girlfriends, have each had a bottle of cheap wine, and are cheering on the wronged female protagonist as she conquers the odds. I have to wonder, though, is this really what I consider to be the best entertainment for women?

Before I continue I want to make it clear that it is not my intention to bash Lifetime. I’m simply saying that if I were running it, things would be a little different. So, here it is my little friends:

1). Daily morning marathons of Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica. These are two shows that showcase intelligent, capable, and downright badass women. What better way to start off the day than see Xena kicking some ancient derriere, or Starbuck busting some balls? I firmly believe this is a healthy way to begin one’s daily routine.

Great Halloween Movies: ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’

When people think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer they usually think of the television show. I am a huge fan of the show and pretty much idolized Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy. Something I’ve noticed though is that a lot of the fans of the show dislike the movie, which came out in 1992. I, for one, am not one of these people. I adore the movie and think it is worthy of being on my list of “Halloween Flicks”.

For those of you who don’t know, the movie came out years before the show. It stars the lovely Kristy Swanson as the ditzy valley girl turned slayer, Buffy, and Luke Perry as Pike, the adorably grunge boy who finds out that vampires exist. There are a lot of reasons why I love this movie. One of the reasons is that as a fan of the show, it’s interesting to see the first version of the iconic character, a Buffy 1.0 you could say. The movie is more lighthearted than the show and is full of delicious Whedon-esque humor, but still has its dark moments. At times it’s over the top, like the bravado and grandiose of the villain Lothos, played by Rutger Hauer, but for me that is part of what makes this movie so much fun.

Another reason why I love this movie is the portrayal of vampires. They’re the perfect mix of old school gothic vampires with contemporary humor. One of vampires is played by none other than Paul Reubens. Yes, THAT Paul Reubens. These vampires have sharp teeth, pale skin, dark circles, and love to hiss. It’s a little cheesy, but it makes me think of vampires from the old Hammer movies. Therefore, they’re awesome.

I have to say that even though the movie is lighthearted and humorous, it’s pretty atmospheric. There’s this whole sequence that takes place in a storage yard where they keep parade floats. At night, it looks pretty damn creepy. It reminds me of places you drive by at night and all of a sudden a shiver goes down your spine, but you can never quite explain why.

Ep. 26 Gizzy’s Sexy Noises

The Lady Defectivegeeks talk a little bit about Lady Gaga’s new music video and MAN GAGA– so what?! Deal with it. We reflect a little bit on American youth, riots and our “Big Brother” country. Space Pirate Queen still can’t read out loud properly but she introduces Gizzy and Fortune Cookie to the existence of bacon and cupcake flavored vodka. Fanfic theater returns with some sexy Spike x Xander action and the girls really push their acting talents.
