SAN DIEGO COMIC CON

SDCC 2018 Prep: Superhero Food and Drinks

What is more important than those exclusive merchandise and scoring autographs at San Diego Comic-Con 2018? The food and drinks, of course– which I am ALWAYS a huge fan of! This year, restaurants and bars in the Gaslamp at downtown San Diego are pulling all the stops all weekend with themed beverages and meals to celebrate our collective nerd party for the long weekend on July 18 until July 22nd. Want to know where to get the tastiest treats? Check out our list below!

Get your Captain America waffle on at Café 222 on Island Avenue: a malted waffle shaped like Captain America’s shield, topped with fresh berries and whipped cream.

For the Star Wars fans, check out Prohibition Liquor Bar on Fifth Avenue where you can order drinks called Never Tell Me the Odds (Redemption Rye,demerara, Averna and R&D house bitters), I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing (El Silencio Mezcal, watermelon cordial and R&D smoke bitters), or Let the Wookie Win (bourbon, lime, ginger and Fernet).

SDCC 2017: Scenes Around the Con, Part 1

Preview night has become one of my favorite nights at San Diego Comic-Con. It is the only night I can tolerate the Exhibit Hall, which becomes way too crowded once the con kicks off on Thursday. I didn’t go shopping this year (I had to be very disciplined). Check out photos of all the cool things I didn’t buy though!

Asian American ComiCon in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles 2017

Asian American ComiCon was one of the best conventions I’ve been to in awhile, possibly a new favorite of mine. When I planned to attend the convention, I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew there were a couple of interesting panels I wanted to see and George Takei will be there. Definitely enough of an incentive to go, especially just to show support to fellow Asian-American creators and the community.

The afternoon turned out to be one of the more memorable and inspiring day I’ve had as a creative person and as an Asian woman.

SDCC 2017: Don’t Have A Badge?

San Diego Comic-Con is an annual heart breaker for a lot of geeks. The convention grows bigger each year but there is a limited amount of badges available for purchase to the public. Tears are wept, blood is shed, as thousands attempt to get their hands on these precious SDCC passes only to be denied. IT IS A CRUEL GAME FOR OUR FRAGILE HEARTS.

Fortunately, all is not despair, because there are plenty of non-badge activities outside of the convention center. Year after year, downtown San Diego gets filled up to the brim with plenty of fun stuff. Here are a few I am looking forward to.

Amazon Prime + The Tick

Amazon is bringing it this year with a multi-room replica of The Tick’s warehouse across the street from the convention center. No details yet on what will be inside this replica but it’s The Tick so it’s probably going to be pretty fun. Amazon will also have a lounge for Prime Members on the corner of 1st and J Street which will also be Tick themed and you can watch a screening of the pilot.

These lounges are always great for a break from the heat.

Alriiiiiiiiight! Bob’s Burger Exclusive at SDCC 2017

July is well on its way (I see you, July) and you know what that means… San Diego Comic-Con is coming up. I am a casual collector and have reigned in a lot of nerd, but there are just some things I absolutely need in my life. By need, I mean, I really, really, really want it.

This year, UCC Distributing is bringing a lot of their usual exclusives to the con but one item has caught my eye.

This. I want this. SO MUCH.

Bob’s Burgers fans will recognize this as Louise’s precious night light companion, Kuchi Kopi! This is definitely going on my shopping list this year.

UCC Distributing will also be carrying exclusives from Steven Universe (!!!), Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon and many more geek favorites. You will find them at Booth #5625.

We can’t anticipate Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo without recording a podcast with Regina (our queen). Listen as she reveals this year’s guests at the convention — from Jim Lee to Carrie Fisher. That’s right, Princess Leia herself will be hanging out with all of us during Halloween, so we hope to see you there!

SDCC 2015: DragonballZ Won’t Settle for Anything Under 9000, You Guys

One of the most prominent anime series in the minds of US otaku is definitely, totally, and probably always will be, DRAGONBALLZ. One of the longest running series in all of nerd-dom, it continues to reinvent itself only just enough so that it tickles our nostalgia, making us nod knowingly about leveling up, or talking about going Super Saiyan.

At San Diego Comic-Con, we were pleased to see the franchise represented in the most kick ass way possible, as Funimation rolls out one after another super fun, fan-focused promotion for their upcoming August release of the English dub of DragonballZ: Resurrection ‘F’.

Nestled on a balcony of Conival’s huge event held in Petco Park during SDCC, the DragonballZ crew went all out to test fans’ power levels to see if they could join Frieza’s army in an event called “FRIEZA FORCE: GALACTIC ARMY BOOTCAMP!” Costumed actors yelled out to passerby to recruit them to the army and test their skills!

Check out this video of one of the most unique and fun marketing experiences set up at SDCC.
