I used to believe I was a sensible person (who some times did nonsensical things). I scoffed at other women who thought having a vampire boyfriend would actually be a good idea. I rolled my eyes at the “sexy”-fying of vampires. I believed they should be left alone to be evil, bloodsucking monsters. I didn’t think anyone else but Anne Rice really captured vampire psychology. I still have a great dislike towards Twilight. When Vampire Diaries first started airing on television, I rolled my eyes. I thought I would just chalk the show up as another dumb, tweeny show and its target audience was definitely not me.
Then it happened. My friends started talking about the show and how amazing it was. I was shocked. These are people who I respect! Their opinions mattered to me! What is going on? Is the show really that good? Inevitably, my curiosity got the best of me and I signed on to my Netflix account to watch the show.
Now, I owe everyone an apology.
Our Lady Geeks discuss the upcoming ‘Ninja Turtles’ movie, produced by Michael Bay, and tries to imagine how epic and explode-y it’s going to get. Alien turtles, anyone? This episode is also full of old lady creepiness. Fanfic Theater: Doctor Who and Godzilla.
For Christmas my aunt gave me the series Twin Peaks on DVD. I had never seen it before, but I had certainly heard of it and was well aware of some of its infamous lines and Lynchian charades. After watching the first five minutes, I was hooked. Later in the episode I was introduced to a character named Dale Cooper. His perfectly coifed hair and boy scout attitude won me over and a new fangirl crush was born.
I must admit I’m normally the type of girl that goes after villains, rarely good guys, and even more rarely ones that apologize before cursing (how adorable). There is just something about Agent Cooper, though. Part of his charm is his penchant for local horticulture (“Douglas Firs!”), Tibet, and cherry pie. I also love his life philosophy.
It’s an old fashioned podcast episode with just the Space Pirate Queen and Gizzy B behind the microphones. Mostly chit-chat about the weekend adventures and Lord of the Rings drinking game. Which led to talk of alcohol and getting drunk. Go figure! Fanfic Theater: Lord of the Rings.
