Knott’s Scary Farm 2015 Announcement (Pictures + Video)

Ever since I can remember I have loved Halloween. Everything about it from the dressing up, the horror movie marathons on television, and everything magically becoming pumpkin flavored has been truly special to me.

When I was eleven I found out about Knott’s Scary Farm. I almost couldn’t believe it, one of my favorite theme parks at night transformed into a huge haunted house? A place where scenes from scary movies and stories that I loved became real life and I could experience them? I begged my mother to take me to this magical place! Well, little eleven year old Giselle got her wish. I’ll never forget how much fun I had and new love for my favorite time of year was born. Also, major props to my mom for staying up until 2am so her weird kid could pretend she was in a scary movie.

Knott's Scary Farm 2015 AnnouncementNeedless to say when so many years later I got the chance to cover the official announcement for this year’s Knott’s Scary Farm I was freaking delighted as hell. Here, kids, is my report on what we all can look forward to at this year’s Haunt. May I say it looks pretty damn spectacular. Continue reading

Awesome (Awful) Sequels I’m Looking Forward To

As the title of our last podcast suggest and as I am sure most of you have noticed already — it is the Age of Sequels. Or reboots. Or re-hashing of movies from 20 years ago that Hollywood thinks they can make new cash with. Whatever you want to call it, it’s happening right now. The sad truth is that I am one of the enablers and that I am truly excited for these movies. I might be failing my peers in the creative community as a whole.

Independence Day 2

Independence Day is one of my favorite movies. I will fight with anyone’s beloved grandmother to the end that it is one of the most re-watchable films from the 90s. Next year in 2016, the movie will be 20 years old and I have a feeling this sequel is aiming to release in conjunction with that anniversary.

Podcast2013-web-image

SailorMizz answers another question from a listener and gives advice on what to give your lady geek for her birthday. Then the Lady Geeks discuss the choice of Ben Affleck for Batman (Batfleck?) and why Keanu Reeves is possibly the greatest human being of all time. Yes, even more so than the Batman himself.

Why You Need to Watch BBC’s ‘Being Human’

A few years ago a friend of mine told me about a show they had seen on BBC America about a vampire, werewolf, and ghost living together. I remember they said to me, “I think it’s called Being Human. You should check it out, it’s right up your alley.”

Needless to say I was all over that like stink on, well, something very stinky and after watching the first episode I was hooked. It’s everything I love about the supernatural genre combined with wit, charm, and hilarity. The show is now on its fourth series and I am happy to say is just as wonderful as ever. If you have never watched BBC’s Being Human, then let me enlighten you as to why it is kind of amazing.

1). IT’S REFRESHING AND ORIGINAL. These days we are bombarded with stories about vampires and werewolves. Every other new film or show is jumping on the supernatural bandwagon, which I wouldn’t mind so much if the stories weren’t so derivative of each other. Being Human thankfully does not fall into this category. The main characters are unique and endearing, and they stand apart from the stereotypical depictions that occur with supernatural creatures.

Ep. 35 BOO! Halloween!

Sailor Mizz joins us for her very first podcast, hooray! We get to know her and her geekstory for the first half of this podcast. The other half is Halloween centric because it’s our favorite holiday. We tell real ghost stories, paranormal experiences, sleep paralysis and just good ol’ spooky shit. WARNING: If you’re easily freaked out, you might want to skip those parts.

‘The Dead Files’ premiers on the Travel Channel this Fall Season

My childhood experience while growing up in the Philippines has cemented my belief on the paranormal and the “other world”– just call me, Spooky Pirate Queen! That’s an X-Files joke, by the way and you’re way super cool if you got it.

Ghost Adventures, Travel Channel

The Travel Channel is my go-to channel whenever I turn on the television and yes, I admit it: I enjoy the occasional Ghost Adventures episode here and then. For those who does not know, these guys: Zak Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin travel all over the United States at haunted destinations. What do they do? Well, the one thing that only three dudes would do together… they lock themselves over night in these supposedly haunted houses and buildings. It’s like watching a long drawn-out dare each time as the guys run about with night vision cameras while Zak taunts the ghosts to either touch him or speak to them. It’s often hilarious and often you do get a glimpse of what may be on the other side of death. But often time, these ghosts are from a far away past and history.

What happens when they send people to investigate the more recent dead?
