Podcast2013-web-image

The Space Pirate Queen sits down with Marie Lu and Aun-Juli Riddle to discuss books, tea and how much sugar we had that night. Marie touches a bit on her current book projects (INCLUDING BATMAN!) and Juli talks about how she got started creating her geek themed tea over at Riddle’s Tea Shoppe!

‘CHAMPION’ Signing with Marie Lu at Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore

Marie Lu's CHAMPION Signing

Champion by Marie Lu was released early November 5, 2013 and the author ended her book tour at the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in Redondo Beach. The back of the bookstore was crowded with fans by the time I arrived, many of them were young girls with their moms (well, there were boys too!). The event started with Marie talking about her writing methods and afterwards, she took (non-spoiler-y) questions from her readers. As usual, her fans were very curious and enthusiastic with lots of interesting questions for the author!

Leigh Bardugo, Marie Lu, Michael DiMartino and Seth Hoffman at the Grove’s Barnes and Noble

barnes and nobles 6-26-13

Admittedly, I arrived at this event pretty late so I won’t be able to give you guys a detailed account of the entire panel. I jammed it from work to get to the Grove and the traffic was horrendous! Still, it was cool to see Marie with Leigh Bardugo (author of Shadow and Bone), Michael DiMartino (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Seth Hoffman (The Walking Dead) all one one panel.  Here are some of my shots from the panel where I stood in the back of the crowd and the autograph session afterwards.

Marie Lu’s Champion, Book Yum!

champion.indd

The cover for Marie Lu’s CHAMPION, the third book in the Legend series is absolutely gorgeous. I’m a little late since this book cover was revealed awhile ago but it looks too delicious to not share. Champion will wrap up the story of Day and June and I am pretty excited to see how everything — as they say — goes down.

Check out the image for the trilogy box set on the author’s Tumblr.

Come out to The Grove next Wednesday, June 26 at the Barnes and Nobles store to see Marie at a panel with, well, a bunch of other amazing people!

‘Prodigy’ Book Launch Party at Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore

PRODIGY Book Launch Party

Marie Lu’s second book, Prodigy, the sequel to Legend officially hit bookstores yesterday on Jan 29th, 2013. Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in Redondo Beach hosted a book launch party  with a Q&A and a book signing session. The author was surrounded by family, friends and tons of her fans — especially young girls who are young adult readers. It was fun to see them have the opportunity to ask very intelligent questions about Marie’s story, characters and her writing methods.

INTERVIEW: Marie Lu’s ‘PRODIGY’

Last year, Marie Lu’s first young adult novel, LEGEND, blew us all away and in January 2013, the second installment in Day and June’s dystopian adventure is coming: PRODIGY. The cover of the new book was revealed a couple of weeks ago as well as an excerpt from the first chapter, which you can read over at www.legendtheseries.com. Be warned! Just like in LEGEND, the first chapter of PRODIGY will leave you hanging!

Marie was kind enough to do a quick interview with us to let us know what we can look forward to in the second book.

— — —

Is it as exciting to see the finished product for PRODIGY as it was with LEGEND?

MARIE LU: YES! Seeing PRODIGY come together is actually exciting in a completely different way. I’ve written plenty of manuscripts before (that never made it), but this is the very first book I’ve written that’s a sequel to something. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever written, so I’m really excited and anxious to hear what readers think!
