We had our first ever giveaway contest here on Defective Geeks, and we are happy that it went pretty well. I picked a winner via a random number generator on the internet (so fancy!) and our winner is @Jackie_Skeleton! I’ve already contacted her and she requested to have her ninja portrait be a fluffy, pink lolita ninja.
This is how the painting turned out.
I hope she likes it! Congratulations, Jackie!
Thank you so much to everyone who entered. Hope you all come back for the next one!
My partner in blog crime, Pilbeam, and I collaborated for this contest to bring you some handmade prizes! Behold. The prizes.
1) Cute ninja crochet.
2) Ninja necklace.
3) An art commission- your very own personalized ninja portraiture.
If you win, you can commission me to draw you a ninja character- the ninja can look like you, someone else you know, or anything you like! I will ask you to send me a description and a photo reference if you have it. You can see a sample below of what you’ll get.
There are two ways to enter, and you can do BOTH! There are no limits on how many ways and how many times you can enter.
1) Leave a comment at this post with your name and your e-mail, plus whatever random comment your heart desires. Anything. Tell us how geeky you are, it doesn’t matter. One comment counts as one entry.
2) Twitter! Just post this on your twitter: I want to win the Ninja Giveaway Contest from @defectivegeeks- http://bit.ly/91zYbn RT and try to out-ninja me!
Everytime you RT the above on your twitter, it will count as a single entry. You can enter as much as you can, no limits! No need to follow the twitter, by the way.
CONTEST ENDS: Sunday, October 3 at midnight PST. One winner will be announced on October 7.

Update on my crochet. I’ve been working hard at making my ninja. It’s slow going while I still learn the stitches and get used to reading the crazy patterns. I’m pretty certain I’m not doing it entirely right, and I really wish I had someone to ask in person. Google is only so good.
Anyway, here’s my half way photo:
That’s the body on the right and half the head on the left.
The yellow yarn is a marker so I know where I started my row.
And I meant to take more photos during the process but I got so eager to finish it I forgot to pause and shoot! So, I only have a completed pic for you. Next time, I’ll stop and take photos.
Compared to what it was in the book:
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
I haven’t decided what to do next, though. I thought I’d dig into some knitting, but I don’t really want to make a scarf, but I’m not really good enough to do anything more advanced. Maybe I’ll crochet more!
So, I have a new hobby! I’m going to try and post about it as I work on new projects. I’m teaching myself to crochet and knit. I’m reading these books to learn:
And these websites:
My first thing was this little flower, from Amy Odyssey website:
And then I found this book:
And now I’m going to make a ninja!!!
(That’s a picture from the book of what it will look like)
This is how far along I am! That’s the body, it looks like a little hat at the minute, I know. But I’m getting there!
Then, I might try and do this:
But I have so many things I want to make! I found this website:
Which lets you organise your projects and keep track of your yarn and find new patterns. I’ve already found like 5 more I want to do. I just need to find the time!
