SDCC 2017: Don’t Have A Badge?

San Diego Comic-Con is an annual heart breaker for a lot of geeks. The convention grows bigger each year but there is a limited amount of badges available for purchase to the public. Tears are wept, blood is shed, as thousands attempt to get their hands on these precious SDCC passes only to be denied. IT IS A CRUEL GAME FOR OUR FRAGILE HEARTS.

Fortunately, all is not despair, because there are plenty of non-badge activities outside of the convention center. Year after year, downtown San Diego gets filled up to the brim with plenty of fun stuff. Here are a few I am looking forward to.

Amazon Prime + The Tick

Amazon is bringing it this year with a multi-room replica of The Tick’s warehouse across the street from the convention center. No details yet on what will be inside this replica but it’s The Tick so it’s probably going to be pretty fun. Amazon will also have a lounge for Prime Members on the corner of 1st and J Street which will also be Tick themed and you can watch a screening of the pilot.

These lounges are always great for a break from the heat.

Created by the team at The Zelda Project, this teaser was directed by Clinton Jones, with music by Wayne Strange of ZREO, and costumes by Sarah Quillian.

Check out the hunky Wes Johnson starring as Link, with Whitney Moore as the beautifully rendered Navi.

This teaser serves as a prequel to the live action Zelda “Final Battle” movie being produced this year, which will be directed by Tom Grey with music composed by Sonya Belousova, (both of the group Player Piano), based on the final battle between Link and Ganondorf depicted in Ocarina of Time. Some screen capped goodness below:

Conception II

Let me preface this review by saying I’ve always felt that if you’re looking to be offended by something, you more than likely will succeed in doing so. This relates to the Sony Vita game/Nintendo 3DS (I played Vita), Conception II, in that I’ve read many reviews decrying the “smutty dating sim” portions of the game dragging down the JRPG portions of the game and that if only the scandalous sim relationship portions of the game were removed, it would be an otherwise enjoyable RPG.

I’m here to say that’s entirely not true.

Conception II is not an RPG hampered by a dating sim, nor is it a dating sim hampered by an RPG, it’s a game that aims to be both at once, and each is inextricably linked to the other.
