INTERVIEW: Jadiel Dowlin of ‘Star Falls’, Inspiring Creator and Rising Superhero

Jadiel Dowlin plays Phoenix Brooks in Nickelodeon’s Star Falls, a deep and thoughtful character who has had to live with the stardom of his Hollywood star father Craig Daniels (played by Dion Johnstone). At a young age and with the support of his family, Dowlin began pursuing that creative itch in entertainment through modeling and commercials. In 2013, he was cast in Amazon Prime’s original series, Annedroids, and is now a fast rising actor and writer as well. Get to know this inspiring young man through my chat with him below!

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, Jadiel! What inspired you to become an actor and how did you get started? Were you always a creative person?

Glad to be taking part in this interview!

I enjoyed “pretending” at a very young age. I wasn’t allowed to watch TV Monday through Friday, so it became a daily habit to read, write and play make-believe with my parents, especially my dad. We would play superheroes for hours. Then in grade five, I started writing speeches and winning speech competitions in every grade, at the school and regional level, to the point that I went to the finals in grade seven. It was then that my mom’s best friend from Panama, my Tia Lourdes (auntie in Spanish), told her that she has to put me into some kind of drama related activity because she noticed that I was a natural at acting and doing impersonations. My parents disagreed with her because they were focused on “building my character” they were afraid I would become like other child stars that we see in the media.

Why Ned Leeds from Spider-man: Homecoming Has Blessed Us

There is a lot to celebrate when it comes to the latest Spider-Man “reboot”—besides the movie actually being really, really, really amazing. The best Spider-Man movie yet in my humble opinion. I am totally biased though, Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel hero. Although, I admit, Spider-Man 2 with Tobey McGuire still holds a special place in my heart. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock. Can’t deny, fam.

Still, Spider-Man: Homecoming did an amazing job casting a diverse group of actors and since I am Filipino, I had to talk about the outstanding performance by Jacob Batalon as Need Leeds.

Seriously… Batalon is a gift.

The Marvel Experience

THE MARVEL EXPERIENCE

On Valentine’s Day, I made my way to the Marvel Experience while it was at Del Mar, California. This comic book geek playground consists of 7 domes, the largest one hosting several character inspired “training” stations. Most of it were video game stimulators, like learning how to fly like Iron Man or smashing robots as the Incredible Hulk. There are two stations that were more physical — the Spider-Man wall climber and the Black Widow agility test.

Reasons To Watch ‘The Wolverine’

TheWolverine_bluray1

Do I really need to give you reasons to why you should watch The Wolverine? First of all, it’s the Wolverine. Second of all, it’s Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine. I can’t imagine you’ll need more reasons than that! The Wolverine’s plot is set some time after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, and Logan is in hiding and ridden with guilt for having been forced to kill Jean Grey. An old acquaintance from Japan seeks him out, forcing him out of his isolation and the Wolverine finds himself playing the ‘hero’ again despite his best efforts to live a quieter life.
